Looks fantastic Tony. Look forward to seeing it in the metal at the next meeting. Best colour too! [8D]

Thanks. Hopefully there will be 2 new Guards red 911's at the next R15 meting !!

Nice car but you need to change the number plate as it belongs to a 996 (the FUG part) [:D]

Can I ask if u found this car on pistonheads? If it's the one I'm thinking of it's only done 40k miles right?? Lovely car

Yes, thats the car. It has just turned 40,000 miles and appears to be a very genuine car. I took it to my local specialist this morning, nervous moments, but he confirms it is all as I hoped and has given it the thumbs up. One or two little things to do such as replace some of the undertray clips etc, but generally it has been very well maintained. Roll on the better weather !!

Regarding the differences between my 3.2 and this one, it feels a much more modern car, and is an easier and probably slightly more rewarding drive, although I have only done 150 miles or so yet. My 3.2 has also done a very low mileage at 35,000, so I am at least comparing similiar mileage cars even if there is 10 years between them. I have the 915 gearbox on my 3.2 and although it is no where near as bad as legend has it, the 993 is a joy in comparison.

Do all 993's have such a bad turning circle? I have the 17" wheels not the 18" wheels, but is is nearly as bad as my landrover !!

Yes - mine is worse than my FWD Transit van!

If your Landy turning circle is bad, just turn in your steering lock stops a few turns until the tyres just touch the radius arms. That way, our 90's turning circle is way better than the 993. (I am assuming you have a traditional defender/disco with proper axles.)

I am also a bit of a Landrover nut, and have had a number of Defenders through the ages, but at the moment I just have a lovely little Series 1 80", so yes standard axles etc. I also have a half scale model, hand built by the Landrover Series One Club with a Reliant Robin 600cc engine and 4 speed gearbox plus many reliant and mini parts. This has been clocked at 60 mph apparently, but not with me in it though. Much better for going in and out of the beer tent during the long evenings at the various shows we attend during the year !! I attach a photo for your information.

Fantastic. I too am looking for a 1950/52 80 inch - but unfortunately they are rare, and not getting any cheaper, as you will know. Still, I'll keep on looking/saving.
