Finally picked up my S2 - problem no.1...

Had an excellent drive up the M1 yesterday in the glorious sunshine. I have to say the S2 is so smooth & quiet on the motorway, (compared to my noisy, rev-happy FTO), & the pull at around 4k rpm is superb.

A couple of minor niggles on the drive home:

The sideways movement of the gear lever is very stiff, perhaps the linkage needs looking at?

A slight vibration through the steering wheel at around 80. I'm guessing a wheel slightly out of balance.

Anyway, I put it to bed in the garage last night, then went back in later on to be greeted by a large puddle of water coming from underneath! OMG thinks I, so down on the hands & knees with a torch & there's a trickle of water coming from the OSF undertray. On closer inspection it was nice apple scented screenwash! I had a good poke around but couldn't find where it was leaking from. I'm guessing the pipes are right at the bottom, so I'm going to have to jack it up & remove the under tray to get to them?

Cheers,
Robbo

Congratulations!

On the gearshift front, mine was similar when i picked it up in December and it is a common issue. I had a new bush on the gearlinkage at the gearbox end and all parts were greased with the result that the gearchange is as good as anything I have ever driven - super precise and smooth with a lovely mechanical action.

Glad it's 'only' screenwash[:D]

Robbo has it been used regularly? Often the linkage at the gearbox seems to dry out and can be brought back to life with a good soaking of penetrating oil (WD40) followed by a good soaking in aerosol grease to keep it lubed. The linkage is just inboard of the exhaust, on top of the gearbox so the heat can dry them out. If lubing and regular use does not free it up then a new linkage will make it feel like new again. Remove the N/S/R wheel for easy access.

Phew thank goodness the leak is washer fluid [8|] As the guys have said, the tank is in a bitch of a place to get to []

Congratulations on the new car. My car feels so much better with a new linkage much more precise and smoother.

Glad it was only screen wash could of quite nasty and possibly expensive if it was anything else.
