Finally - racing again in my 2.7

My 2.7 will be out at Croft circuit, this weekend 23rd/24th September for the season finale of the Porsche Club Championship. Any support much welcomed!

After some tinkering we are now at 223bhp (stock: 220bhp - and for the record we are far from convinced that Porsche was 100% reliable in the base number. After a 100% rebuild and blueprint we were 10bhp short....) but still perhaps 70kgs too heavy. That is still down 9% on an optimum power to weight allowed in the series so I doubt we will be winning anything - but hey, you gotta try!

Hi Marcus

Interesting as ever to read your report - what are you allowed to do within the Championship rules to lighten the car? What does your car weigh now?

Cheers and good luck

Pete

Interested to know what was removed to reduce weight.

Do you have to run with a hard top?

You can do plenty (remove entire interior and soft top for a start, then all the front and rear boot stuff, aircon if you have it, etc). Nothing structural - or in any event you'd be well advised not to. Power windows, central locking, etc. But then you have to put a roll cage, fire system and driver's seat and harness back in.

Yes I do run a hard top for aerodynamic reasons - try doing a "hood up" and "hood down" deceleration test (ie time 70-50mph on a flat road) and weep at the results.... [I also noticed a couple of weeks ago that my fuel consumption went from 27 hood down to 30 hood up on a long journey....]

Now running around 1240kgs (with me), and our regs allow 1160kgs so still a way to go.
Cheers
Marcus
