Finally

Timmy

New member
After what seems an age I finally collect my RS tomorrow. Remember how you felt aged 6 on Christmas Eve?!
I' ll post some pics when I get it home, just a shame I didnt have it over here on the Isle of Man as the TT is on at the moment. There again prehaps it wouldnt have been a good idea.

You lucky, lucky B.
Good job you haven' t got it. Would be a right pain having all those bikers getting in the way. The RS will be later on the brakes and quicker around the corners.

We also did the Jerby track when we were on the island...cost me two rear tyres, new windscreen and £1,300 worth of paint. More stone chips than paint. Damned expensive track day!

Welcome to the select register, Timmy.

Go to the 964RS section of the website and fill in the details on the Register form and send to me.

Well, what can I say?

Flew IOM to Gatwick, one way hire car (Fiat Stylo - nasty) to Plymouth area (took me about 10 hours from getting up to finding the sellers house)

Gorgeous Midnight Blue with triple blue leather shining in the sun. Condition as described (although there were a few more stone chips than I had expected).

Took it up the road for a blat - wow! Forgotten what a car feels like without power steering. Ride actaully not as bad as I had expected (I' ve been driving my E30 M3 for the last couple of weeks which is track prepared and it wasnt as bad as that)

HOWEVER......

Pulled in to fill it with fuel and it kept dying as I pulled off. Thought it was me with the lightweight flywheel but eventually got going. Got back to the sellers house but it just would not run, kept stalling and smelled of fuel. Seller got his local mechanic to look at it who by process of elimination suggested it was something to do with the cold start. Seller was completely embarressed and offered me my deposit back there and then. After having a quick contemplate - what was I going to do? I' ve been looking for a 964 (first C2 then RS) for about 2 years and spent a fortune flying over to see rubbish. If I walked away from this I was back to square 1. It was the right car in the right colour at the right price, it just happened to fail on test drive.

SO.....

The seller paid for a three day hire car from Plymouth to Liverpool, paid for 2 single boat trips back to the IOM, paid for my return journey next saturday and will get the car to the Liverpool ferry for next saturday and will get the (now diagnosed) Engine Temperature Sensor (it was showing 0.3V not the correct 1.5V and going into get you home mode - retard the ignition and dump a load of fuel in) replaced as well. Will take most of the price in a Bankers Draft and let me run the car for a week before asking for the remainder.

All things considered, albeit a very roller coaster ride, I think I' ve done the right thing, and I' ve only got to wait another 5 days.....

Update you next Monday!!!!!!

Ha! Ha! Ha! What a scream.....!

Flew over saturday, met the sellers rep at the airport and was on my way by 8.30am. Lurched through Liverpool getting used to the ' box/clutch/pedals and just enjoyed the sensation of driving MY first Porsche.

First impressions are pretty obvious. Will look like Popeye before long, the ride is especially harsh and the Ark Royal could turn round quicker.

Nipped over to 9M in Warrington to suss out their facilities for future servicing/set up needs - didnt take long when confronted with 3 more RS, their 993 RSR and a selection of track/rally cars. The car has been to them before as well according to the invoices.

Drove back into Liverpool and headed for the tunnels - 6000 in 2nd howling off the walls (I went through 4 times in all at a cost of £1.20 a trip - small price to pay!) and gave it a through soapy hand wash (ooerr) before heading for the ferry at 19.00. Back on home soil for 21.45 and drove straight home via three friends houses.....

Another quick wash on sunday morning then some serious business called the TT course. Car was in its element, mostly flat tarmac with fast sweepers although the section called the Mountain Mile is a bit bumpy. Pleased the speedo needle disappears behind my hand, not sure what speed but it was 6900 in 4th whatever that equates to. Looking at previous posts I think mine has too much neggy camber all round (-2) so I' ll probably get that knocked back to factory or 1.5 as it feels a bit nervous.

But otherwise massive smiles all round - looks, colour, condition, seats, noise all add up to a a very happy purchaser.

I have a ton of questions to ask - I' ll drip feed them over the next couple of weeks if you dont mind?

Hopefully catch up and some future meets

Timmy

Thanks for the post. Always nice to hear from someone who has just collected a car. Reminds us of when we got ours. From memory the TT course has all the elemnts to make a 911 driver smile[:)]. Smooth tarmac, undulating roads and no speed limit on the open roads. I am now on my fourth Porsche and it' s the same experience every time. Wonderful. More please Timmy.[;)][;)][;)]

Welcome Timmy to 911 Heaven, the 964RS the most fun, involving and addictive drive of any Porsche, just be a little careful out there with your new baby, don' t forget this is a road legal track car thus not set up for our poorly maintained roads................ENJOY...........look forward to meeting you both............

I think Gary said it all. Nice to be reminded of all the things you end up taking for granted. I will second Dessy' s remarks about being careful, especially in the wet or damp or greasy. Just remember the car has very little grip on damp surfaces unless set up for them, ie tyres roll bars etc.

Hi Des

We dont have an annual MOT over here, just an ultra strict Vehicle Inspection Test for any car over three years old that get imported. Mine passed with flying colours yesterday (always a relief) so now it is Manx registered I' m going to take some piccies at the weekend.

Also got a new PC at work but my camera software got wiped and I cant find the driver CD........so I need to download that as well.

Hopefully get some up for tues/weds

Timmy

Very nice attachment ! At least I get a new window, with the close option (mind you, that is all I get)

Right, lets have another go......

If this works it will be a picture of my RS at the Bungalow Museum on the TT course....
