Finding the right one

I'm making the first tentative steps towards 964 ownership and need help in finding the right mechanic and car. Given that the majoriy of cars are maintained by independents, I'd be keen to know if someone could recommend a good garage in SW london or Surrey. I'd also be keen to know if someone could give me independent feed back on good private porsche inspections.

As I'm not terribly knowledgible about cars, I'm not sure if I should pay for someone to 'search out the right car' for me, or wheher I should just trawl the ads and the car dealers myself.

Comments and suggestions welcome !!

Try Eporsch (Roly Baldwin) in Chertsey 01932 569844 or 07834 603020 bought my current 964 from him. I was very pleased. GT One are next door to him and they did a pre purchase inspection.

I bought from Roly too. He is a good guy to deal with, and knows his way around 964s well.

There are some great cars available privately, but I'd recommend an inspection if you go this route. John Morgan is a recognised specialist for this and operates in your neck of the woods I think. The Club office will have details for him I'm sure.

People seem to rate Ray Northway whose garage is just outside Reading. He sells and services cars. There's also 911virgin in Uxbridge. They get through a hell of a lot of cars, and seem to get repeat custom, so can't be all bad. Their website is good, but they tend to have a lot of 993s and newer stuff these days.

911 & Porsche World did a useful byuers guide on 964s last year - not sure which month, sorry. Worth getting hold of a back issue.

By the way, gongrats on choosing the best looking 911 [;)].

Good luck

Martin

Thanks guys. I have tried Eporsch, and will probably also look into private sellers as well.
