Fingers crossed

After 3,000 miles in two months but with a "soft" run in for 1,800 miles with a 5,000rpm cap, I have now had to officially book my May '07 997 C2S into an OPC for work.

The originally mildly lumpy idle has gotten worse (it is now random missing or extra heartbeats) and the left side exhausts are showing significant carbon deposits compared to the right side. [:(]

I trust the idle is a cracked plug cover issue and will be simple to sort out. If, however, the carbon is part of the scored piston issue I have seen on this and the Rennspeed forum, I will probably get it right and then sell up. I do not have the time or patience for this sort of reliability issue.

Sorry to hear of your problems, I empathize with your feelings of frustration, when we invest so much in these cars and treat them with respect we have a right to expect near perfection. I hope everything gets sorted out to your satisfaction. Keep us informed of progress.

Well the car went in this morning and they connected the PIWIS (sp?) up in front of me.

53 Zone 1 hits; 12 Zone 2 and 0 all others.

The technician agreed the idling is lumpy and it looks like Cylinder #5 has a running issue. On one of the screens (I have forgotten which one) cylinders 1,2,3,4 and 6 were showing numbers of 0.3 - 0.4 and #5 was showing 1.6-1.8. I do not know if 5 impacts on the left side exhausts, but it could explain the sooting up.

Whilst the PIWIS also showed some none rythmic idling it did not show any missfires in the 30 secs or so we watched the screen.

It could be a cracked coil pack (apparantly unusual for such a new car), but I will find out later today, assuming Guildford OPC gets some electricity into its workshop! That is needed to get the car on a ramp.

The tecnician also agreed that some early cars had a problem with scored pistons / cylinders, but it should not be the case on the later cars.Again, subject to electricity, I will find out today.

Fingers crossed for you, although its a good start that they can see something is at issue.
