Firewall crack repair

Morning all,

After 180k miles of good duty the firewall around the clutch master cylinder often gets tired and in my case the installation of a rather stiff pressure plate highlighted this issue as the clutch pedal didn't feel quite right when pressing it.
Some preventive action was needed to avoid the risk of being uncomfortably left stranded on the side of the road with a broken firewall.

Some soldering was done along the line were the firewall had cracked and a steel plate cut from a Belgian mailbox was fitted to transfer some stress from the firewall to the wheel well - or precisely to three bolts.
Clutch action now feels better than before.

Im guessing that what you call 'soldering', we call brazing. Silver soldering etc is very different to electrical soldering... [:D]
