firewall inside car?

I was wondering if anyone could help me on what is normally used inside the cab as a firewall. I am getting a bunch of heat on my legs and some gas fumes in the cab. If someone has some helpful info that would be great.

thanks

It's just the bulkhead with some soundproofing and carpet over it. You will get some heat through it when the car has been driven hard or for a long time.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]In terms of fumes it could be coming through a missing or displaced grommet, but that is normally accompanied by a surprising increase in noise so if you don't have that I think it's probably coming in elsewhere. What sort of fumes are they, petrol, oil, exhaust?[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

i would say an exhaust fume, i get it in the cab almost immediately after driving it. Any ideas on this?

thanks

It will be a leak at the rear then I expect. I'd suggest things like the factory holes for numberplate mounting not being used but left uncovered, leaky rear light seals or some other hole in the back panel or boot floor that shouldn't be there.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Just a thought - when you said you "get it in the cab..." I took that to mean the car is a cabrio, but now I read it again maybe you mean the cabin? If the latter then add a hatch seal to the things to look at.

A work collegue has just put a new interior into his classic Austin Healey 3000 and used some modern heat/sound proofing material under the carpet as apparently the Healeys do get hot inside. He said it works a treat so you could try that. I suspect it's probably readily available but give me a shout if you can't find it and i'll ask him what it is.

check the gear linkage area as well if this is not sealed properly fumes seep thru here (foam shroud, rubber inner gaitor and outer leather gaitor and gearlver assembly) make sure they are all seated correctly.

good luck

andy

PS. be careful on long trips in the car!!
