Just for info and in case any of you guys get a similar problem ...... Found myself stranded at Hopwood Park services on the M42 on a Friday evening! Stopped for a toilet break, came back to the car, unlocked with keyfob, got in turned the key and nothing..... didnt even crank.
The immobiliser (PA2000) switched itself off correctly, or so I thought ..... called AA, bloke arrived some time later. Fair play to the guy he spent over an hour on it checking battery, fuses, wiring and cleaning relays. He couldnt get access to the starter motor, and I must admit I didnt know how to get to it, but I called the specialist I use for a chat and to ask (bear in mind it was going on 21:30).
Removed the driverside rear wheel which allows very limited access through the suspension (mines a tiptronic, not sure if its the same method for manuals).
clouting it a few times didnt work so without a ramp we couldnt do anything more. Relayed the car back for the specialist to sort on the Monday. The AA guy thought it had to be the starter motor that had packed in, and being a tip, couldnt even try to bump start it.
Sorted out two hours after it was delivered on the Monday - turned out to be a fuse had popped out of its holder under the steering column, id probably kicked the underneath of the dash getting out. Apparently there is a 3 fuse block under the dash for the PA2000 (interestingly, the specialist has two mechanics who are porsche trained and they said they were dealer fit from new - different technicians used to strap them in different places under the dash so you may need to hunt around a bit, but I guess they are somewhere near the ignition if you need to find them).
As ive said its just for info, I had absolutely no idea there were any fuses under there, much less anything related to the PA2000.
