First Dealings with an OPC

With me being new to Porsche and not being a hands-on type of guy - my coolant light came on last weekend and i panicked slightly. I own a 996 C4S and assumed the worse after reading previous posts on problems with header tank caps, bleed cap rubber gasket, expansion tank crack, radiator perished and leaking etc, etc. and that my OPC used car warranty programme may not cover what i would assume is a wear & tear item.

Anyway, called Glasgow OPC on Monday as the manual states to do so as a precaution and the service chap asked various questions, have you topped it up?Is there a smell?,Has the warning light came back on? Is the coolant reservoir misty? to which i answered "no" although i did comment that the car had always from day one had a mechanical type smell which i assumed was normal so on that note he advised i book it in Friday morning which i did.

Now as you may remember last Friday was a glorious day in Glasgow and a hardly used 07 plate Boxster courtesy car awaited my arrival and by the afternoon the problem was fixed - one of the radiators had cracked and was leaking so was replaced under warranty at no cost to myself. The wash and hoover that my car received put the icing on the cake so a big thumbs up from me.

I just thought i would post a more positive comment on OPC's as they do seem to get some stick from some quarters.Cant remember the service chaps name but overall a good service.

P.S. I am aware that the next fault may not be under the used warranty plan (£895 a year) and will cost me a few £ but i was pleased with the speed/service i got.

Glad you had a good experiance at the OPC they are not all bad stories ..so it will be all speeed ahead then for your track day debut on Sunday? .....even if you are not tracking come along it is a good day out and according to Gordon it will be sunny

Hi Brian,

I am all-booked up to hit the track,LOL. I dont think i could have just watched you guys driving these cars like they should be driven so i am in the white group with the other novices i assume? Not sure how many laps i will do as i am still at that paranoid stage that i may damage the car but i think it will be a good experience.

What do i need to bring with me? MOT certificate & Insurance Documents? Anything else?

A couple off pairs of clean underpants for a start!! I do not think you need anything else apart from your driving licence, doubt if all on the track have cover ,you can get a helmet for a refundable deposit, enjoy see you there.

It is good to hear there stories, forums can concentrate on the negative and thats the negative from those who use forums., i.e. maybe find it easier to vent their spleen from a keyboard rather than the mouth.

Is it Knockhill you are going too? Brian, I thought you would have suggested a flask and an umbrella!

Not this weekend.......I beleive warm sunny weather has been ordered, but you might just want to put in the survival suit in just in case[:D]
