First drive in the 993RS

Having collected the car yesterday and spending and hour or so getting 3 years of London grim of it it looked very pretty in the early morning sunshine this morning so I just had to go for a blast in the Sussex lanes.

First Impressions:
Love the noise, absolutely intoxicating and so different from my 3.3 Turbo and any of the early 911s, especially when the Varioram does its bit of trickery around 4500 RPM.
Performance; I just love the loooong thrust, so unlike the Turbo, but the overall performance must be similar, its just that this 3.8 motor is so flexible. Also love the close ratio gearbox, again so unlike the awful 4 speed Turbo box.
The ride is harder than I thought it would be, especially along the bumpy lanes around me, and it does love tramlining, making it almost as much of a handfull as the 996 GT3RS that I have driven.
Brakes; the pedal stays very high, making it tricky to heel and toe, I may have to have a look at lowering the pedal.
Back seat; Lucy the labrador seemed happy enough perched on a couple of cushions wedged into the foowell and seatwell.
Front seat; great driving position, but that's LHD for you (cue Simon Extreme)

RSPCA may have something to say! How do you get the Lab behind the bucket seats?

It is hard enough getting a helmet in the back of my RS!

Nice motor but your going to have to invest in a bonnet badge otherwise nobody will know what make it is!

Looks fantastic

Thanks Andy, but it doesn't look quite so good in the flesh. The paintwork has absolutely no wax on it and the rims are very corroded, the interior has some very tacky faux carbon fibre on the dash and centre console. The bonnet badge disappeared between Kensington and Sussex, despite the car facing backwards on the trailer, possible some pikey in High Wicombe had it off while I was in Modena for 10 minutes.

Lots to do, so little time....

The rear carpet script is blue. The COA list the interior as black/grey/riviera blue. The seat inlays are grey but the seat belts have been changed to red at some time, so I suppose I need to find a set of Riviera Blue belts?

Congrats Nick, the car looks great!

It always takes a little while to get an RS set up for your liking. Unless you are running track rubber on the road, you shouldn't have tramlining problems with a correct alignment set up.

Get it set up straight and then on to the track,,,,,,,with the torque coming in higher up the rev range, close ratio box etc.....it all comes together........with respect, until you track one of these cars you really don't ralise their full potential. All fun thigs to look forward to [:)]

Lovely car Nick, looks superb.
'Thought for that money it was supposed to be 'tatty'. Well bought I'd say.

That Lucy certainly has plenty of Porsche miles under her belt.
Must be the most travelled canine Porsche enthusiast.

Nice one Nick. Looks great, thought you said it was shabby? Nothing that can't be sorted by your tlc. Could you ask the prev owner where he got the fake carbon fibre? I could use some of that [:D]

Car looks just superb. Ashdown Forest makes a great backdrop. Agree - the roads are dreadful in the area especially around Tun Wells. Love the roads from Tenterden down to the Rye area for that mid-summer dawn blast. Very envious.

I had a great drive down to Bradford on Avon on Saturday, the car is right at home on the roads over Salisbury Plain. Not so much fun on the flooded roads on the way back yesterday and in the solid jam on the M25 [&o]
