First facelift under £25K ??

I see 911 Virgin have a 2001 facelift for less than £25K ... quite a few miles on the clock, so not warranteeable for long, but could be a nice car for someone. http://www.911virgin.com/stock.htm. Is this a first ?? Hope it doesn't push down the resale value of pre-facelift's too much ;-O
 
was amazed on Saturday to see OPC Bolton selling an 02 plate 996 C4S with 94,000 miles. It was mint, too. They were asking £35995 for it. I bet the main dealers of other manufacturers prepared to sell a car of that age and mileage with a full warranty are few and far between.

The problem with the 996 market is that more and more 997s are becoming available at lower prices than late 996s and having driven a 997 at the weekend, I think I know what I'd choose. Should i post that here?[8|]
 
Interesting ... but virtually £36K for a 94,000 model seems a lot when you can get one just a year older with only another 22K miles for £11K less. OK its a C4S, but as Clarkson said, its a fake !

So, what was better about the 997 than the 996 then. Think if I had £40K to £50K to spend, I'd be seriously tempted by a 996 turbo, rather than a 997. Mind you a) having that sort of money is purely hypothetical and b) I haven't driven either of those models either !
 
Nothing much I could put my finger on really drive wise but as a matter of personal taste, I prefer the look of the headlight design of the 997 and I perceive that some better quality materials are used internally.

Mind you, I did drive a C4S Cab retailing at £90k and it certainly didn't seem £60k better than mine!
 
virgin also have a 997 2s with 32k imles at less than 50 k-20k depreciation in 2 yrs .
big difference from 996(certainly the one i had!)and looks a good deal-also loads of 997`s in the mid40`s so 996`s have to drop imo
 
Interesting discussion and all boils down to personal taste. Having just had a great weekend and great drive getting more attached to my 996 C4S than ever. Regarding 997's driven the manual and tiptronic C2S and a manual C4S overall the interior of the 997 is more modern but without doubt the presence of the 996 C4S body line knocks spots of the 997 line up imho of course[;)]

With regard to prices dropping I think several factors are to account for this but the 2 main ones are the present financial climate, ( with all the sub factors that account for that) and the volume of 997's hitting the second hand market now. The 993 will hold well as it is the last of the air cooled and having experienced a 993 C4S at the weekend have to say pretty much the mutts nutts.

All in all after 20 months of 996 C4S driving really enjoying her and learning more each time I drive. May be taking my time in getting into track days and such but in no rush as will only be wanting for a GT3 sooner rather than later!!!

I think dyllan has to be right. On a purely objective basis, it would be hard to argue, model for model, that a 997 did anything differently to a 996 that was worse.

That said, having decided to sod the weather and take mine for a blast tonight, (my son needed a lift and when you're 9...) you do wonder about the law of diminishing returns. It's like a hifi, a good one costs a reasonable amount but modest improvements cost an arm and a leg - I enjoyed poncing about in a £90k C4S at the weekend but its best feature was PSE and I could get that done to mine for rather less than the cost to change.

Maybe 3 year old 997s are so cheap because you don't need to spend the money as a 996 is near as dammit as good? [;)]
