I borrowed a 997s for the weekend.

1. Definitely much nicer inside than a 996. Fabrics nicer, graphics better, driving position much improved.

2. Exterior - the changes are much less pronounced than I thought. Rear is nicer, Front is different - not more attractive to my eyes.

3. Power of S engine is terrific. A bit more (appropriate) noise. Surprisingly, really suited tiptronic.

4. Excellent ride. Handling marvelous - down to new PASM?

Now here is the crunch. My 2002 996 C4 is fully loaded with 14000 on the clock.. I gather that I could expect around £43k now. So maybe when my 997S arrives in 6 months, the 996 will be worth £40k. A 997S specced like my 996 will be around £72k - which will mean around £32k to change. Is it worth it? Hell, no.

Makes me think that perhaps I need a break from 911 ownership -to give me some perspective - and then I can return.
