First Post!! And Clutch......

Hello All, I joined the club last week and bought a car today, so thought I would say hello! I've been into TVR's the last 6 years and have decided to switch the weekend car to a 996 C4S. Its an '03 car and its done 52k miles. The car has been kept really clean and tidy and seems to be in great condition - The decider was the colour, its special order Polar Silver (L92M) and looks almost light blue, very nice [:)]
The RMS is leaking and so the dealer (AstonMartin Garage) are going to change that and put a clutch in at the same time, as we believe its the original and I picked up a very light judder when test driving (Also I have seen a number of other cars that have had the clutch changed at ~50k, so I thought it would be a good idea). Question is, will the flywheel be OK, or should that be changed aswell? I've read up on the pro's and con's of swapping to a 'normal' (single mass) flywheel but will stick to the dual mass item - How do I check if its OK or not? Thanks in advance, and I'm looking forward to driving it in a few weeks! Regards, Jonathan

If you're doing the clutch, that's the perfect time to sort out the IMS. It's the most-likely problem with 3.6s and can destroy the engine......

There are several modifications available. I quite like the mod that supplies the IMS with a proper oil feed:

There's some more info here (apologies to PCGB for external link, but hopefully you can see it's just for info:

DMF is better for day-to-day driving, I believe. Personally, I'd change that, too (save on future labour).

Good luck!

Hi there, thanks for that! I have also been looking at the TuneRS kit and my only concern with it is how it affects the oil pressure and feed to the cylinder head. I am sure they will have thought of that, and will call them to learn more about it. My only issue with fitting it now is that the clutch and RMS are being done by a (capable) none Porsche dealer and they are not keen on doing something that isn't standard, which I can understand. So what I might do is have the car, run it for a while to get used to it and then take the box out myself over Christmas so that I can take my time, enjoy fitting the IMS upgrade and make sure its a neat job! I'll let you know how I get on. Thanks, Jonathan
