Hi Everyone !

Just brought my first Porsche (1 week ago)- A lovely 3.2 S 2004 Annv Edition. I must say Im very impressed with the driveability and build quality :).

My first question is - Is it better to put the hood back up or keep in down if storing it for a week or 2 at a time ?. Personal reasons means that I cant drive it every weekend :-( but when I do drop the hood :). What does everyone use to keep the hood in tip top condition ?

I live in Hampshire and was hoping to attend the Boxster track day but thats one weekend I cant do - missed oppurtunity I know.

Happy to meet up with fellow Boxster owners for Saturday/Sunday outings.

Cheers

Steve

Unless you have a hard top aswell if you store it with the top down then you're going to get the inside more dusty than normal and be constantly finding cobwebs and little spiders. That is of course if it's stored in a garage.

Personally i'd leave it up else it means extra cleaning inside.

What does everyone use to keep the hood in tip top condition ? I just wash my hood with plane old water and wipe off residue with a chamois . If it gets really dirty I use some car shampoo the same as jace71. People at Porsche events have always commented on how good my roof looks so the water method must be doing something good.

Happy Boxstering

Welcome to the ownership of the best roadster for sensible money one can buy since 1996 to date yet to be beaten [8D]

I often leave my top down for 2 weeks at a time and although its suggested to keep it up at all times when not posing :ROFLMAO: if you had a hard top then the roof would be down for many months at a time so I have never found a few weeks a problem. I owned a 911 Speedster for 13 years and the top was usually left down 9 months a year only up Jan/Feb and possibly March. When I sold the car at 11K miles & 13 years ownership the roof looked brand spanking new so I can't say leaving it down for 8/9 months a year had any detrimental affect

Congratulations and much happy motoring.

I live in Australia, and in a particulalry dry part of the country. We are still enjoying 25-30C temperatures and clear days. I drive the car everyday, and garage it at home and in a locked garage at the office. I leave the top down unless I am washing the car. So in the 6 months I've had it (987S) the top has almost always been down. I would rather leave it like that than cycle the top constantly. I am convinced by the hard top argument (ie if you put it one, the top will be down for months at at time).

Hope this helps

Hi Steve - given all the angles, I would say choose what suits your driving frequency and what you would prefer to clean most often - interior or soft top!
One tip I have picked up is that if you choose to keep the hood down most of the time during your driving, make sure the rear screen is clean before stowage. As yours is a glass screen at least you don't have to worry about it getting scuffed, like us pre-facelift owners!

Here's a useful link for looking after the soft top on any convertible:
