First post - found an unusual 996 Reg R859OGF

Morning, I'm just selling my Caterham and am looking for a 2+2 so I can take my family out at weekends etc. I'm looking for a clean C2 coupe and I'm not too concerned about mileage but I've spotted this...

http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/WWW/cars_search.asp?modelexact=1&lid=search_used_cars_full&make=PORSCHE&model=911&variant=&keywords=44&min_pr=22500&max_pr=25000&mileage=5&agerange=3&postcode=nn12+8sj&miles=40&max_records=50&source=0&photo=1&sort=3&ukcarsearch_full=SEARCH

Its very strange - a 97 car with 02 lights and bumpers. I guess its had a minor knock and been updated, it's HPI clear and has full history. It also has 6 previous owners which looks a little unusual but not that unusual for this type of car and age I suppose.

I think I'll go for a look but I'm concerned its hiding something. I'll be looking for signs of engine issues (RMS, oil/water mixing) and also crash damage at the front, but before I do I was just wondering if anyone else knew anything about it? I'll also try calling my local OPC to see if they have anything recorded but I'll check the service book first.

Keep fingers crossed or listen to the little voice saying "run away!!!" ?

I run a Caterham Superlight[8D], but a really nice 996 is a great everyday car

An 'R' reg would be a very early example. Obviously your budget will dictate what you can go for, but I would try and find a 1999/2000 model if possible, with modest mileage, full OPC (ideally) history, and nice spec/colour combination. Oh, and a decent warranty is useful. And, don't forget a thorough inspection

good luck..

Yeah, the RAC website says it was registered in Dec 1997 and has 6 previous owners, so the age is correct...

Anyway, sadly I've bought another car which isn't a Porsche. Dont get me wrong I really respect the marque but its just not the time for me. My wife wasn't happy with the idea of getting a boxster and I wasn't happy with the quality of 996s my search was turning up.

I'll wait a few years and come back when I can afford a Cayman, but for now I'm going to be very happy with an 18month old Exige S2.

Thanks for the tips

Bob

Yeah, its perect, it's got a bench attached to the rear bodywork - or it that just a picnic table[:D]

Its got a decent sized boot for the mother in law too.

Hi Bob
I had an Exige S1 for a year before I got my 996. The exige is a great car, but very different than a 911.
Im sure we'll see you back on this forum in the future [;)]

Cheers
Paul
