First problem with the S2, and it's a big one....

It had to happen, honeymoons do come to an end for us all. [&o]

We were talking with friends about how cheap it is to insure a Porsche if you're over, a certain age and drive limited miles. It occured to me that I knew the mileage when I bought the S2, but hadn't included the miles I drove the Lux during this insurance year. On checking, it gave me 18 miles to use before 24th January. Curses.

I could have parked it up and waited six weeks, but on calling Classicline it was only about 10% of the premium to add another 1K miles to the policy. They couldn't have been more helpful, and I think that 10% for a 20% increase on a limited mileage policy wasn't too painful.

So, with 1K miles to use in six weeks we went to Screwfix today to pick up a ladder. Why not, it's more fun than the van in the rain. Ladder was quite big though.....944s do have a few limitations after all! [&:]

I'm still perplexed with the classic insurance, and all the restrictions that brings, unless you have a serious classic worthy of the agreed value. The limitations are a PITA. I insured my S2 as a "normal" car for £320pa.

Even without agreed value you can still argue the value by comparing the market with other cars in similar condition, should the worst happen. If you have a 250 GTO then fair enough, but for a £5k car?

Mine is about half the price of a normal policy. It includes discount for mileage restriction, less backup in the case of an accident like courteousy car, Club discount, that sort of thing. It does depend on us both having other vehicles to use. Yep, they are all restrictions but worth it in my case. Except the mileage one, as I'm having too much fun with the new car! [:D]

But with a normal policy being about £350 if you have good history, is it worth the mileage hassle to save £150 or so? As you say, it depends on having other cars I suppose - when I had my S2 it was my daily driver.

Well, OK, so what was the problem?

Don't tell me you stuck the ladder through the windscreen when you loaded it into the car? Rear window? It broke when you closed it a smidge-too-firmly on aforementioned ladder? Don't keep us all in suspense, man! [:(]

Oli.

P.S. I've discovered toolstation. Usually cheaper than screwfix and better service. And they will deliver any order over £10 for free, thus saving the windscreen and bootlid of your S2 ...

was expecting a horror story here from that topic title.... think ive got 200 miles left to my 5k limit, better check the ration book ;p
