First Service

Just about to book the first service for my Jan '05 C2S with 15,000 miles on the clock. I assume that as the 2 year warranty runs out a couple of weeks later that the dealer will be keen to give the car a once over to check for any potential warranty work?

In the absence of any previous knowledge (first Porsche), I'm planning to use my local dealer in Reading.

Any tips or advice guys? Anything that I should steer the technicians towards i.e. relatively common problems that they "may want to have a look at"? I have to say that the car has been absolutely faultless apart from memory settings on the driver seat seems to be a bit hit and miss when my girlfriend (ocassionally!) drives it.

Thank you in anticipation.......

If you are thinking of extending the warranty, say so and get this sorted at the same time as the service. Otherwise they will want to charge you another hour or two labour, plus whatever it costs if anything needs fixing...

If your car hasn't been in to a dealer at all since new, there will be a few recalls to be done, but that should happen automatically by Reading OPC. Just mention when you book it in. Mine had new exhaust tips and front suspension bushes that I'm aware of.

I will be doing my first services early next year also. The thing I want them to check is the infamous RMS issue. Check there are no leaks.

Update!!

My baby is in today and there a couple of things that have come up that are relevant to recent threads. I asked the OPC to give it a once over with the imminent expiry of the warranty (bizarrely, I haven't been bombarded with mailshots asking me to extend it yet). Anyway, they are doing two things under warranty:

RMS - this is slightly damp apparently, so they're replacing that
Coolant Level - this is a little low, and apparently the pump has a slight leak so they are replacing that.

Furthermore, they're recommending that my rear tyres are replaced today at a cost of £687. I guess that's like for like i.e. Pirelli P-Zero Rosso's. Anybody know how that quote becnhmarks?

I have a 3.2L Cayenne courtesy car, and I must say, whilst it is quite comfortable, it feels horribly underpowered compared to the 911. I guess it's just what you get used to though[:)] The turbo could be fun though.......

How does having TPMS affect getting your tyres elsewhere though?

I am thinking I may get the tyres elsewhere but then get Porsche to fit them so they reset the pressure monitors correctly. Don't know whether they'd accept to do this though.

Julio, £687 is a disgusting, rip-off price. I have just renewed two 285 x 30 ZR 18 Rosso N4's for £360 fitted and balanced, at my local indie.
Pesky OPC's. They don't give up, do they.

Hi John, I think you'll find a huge difference in the price of 18" and 19" tyres. Even on the internet the cheapest for a pair of 295/30/19 Michelin/Pirelli etc is £275 each tyre, £550 a pair.

Julio, you should gather your own internet quotes (that's from Blackcircles.com) and use these to batter-down the OPC tyre costs.

So what will happen then is the next 997 will come out in a few years time fitted with 20" tyres & wheels hence the price of 19" tyres will drop as more and more manufactures use them as standard. Porsche will then use 20" so this moan will raise its head again. I remember this when cars went from 17" to 18". and surprise surprise each manufacturer has a tyre deal

Anyway I thought the service interval were 12 months on all 911's not 2 years. Or is it different for the 997 ? correct me if i'm wrong

Steve

You're wrong !!

The 997 can go up to 2 years between service intervals (dependent on mileage)

Oh ok !

My mate was saying that his 996 Turbo only needed to be serviced every two years as well. So why does a standard C2 996 need doing every 12 months ?

Thanks

Steve

Mine is in on Friday for its first service and I'm extending the warranty.

What is the deal with PCGB discount on servicing & extended warranties?
