Hi,dont you all take this the wrong way please,I am thinking of buying an old 944 and could do with a bit of an insight into the pitfalls, this will be my first step on the ladder and i dont want to be dissappointed and put off for life! Any assisstance would be appreiciated.

Buy a buyers guide if you realy dont have a clue... these are written by the people who know theses cars inside out, i was looking at a paper back form with colour phots at the weekend and wished i had purchased one while i eas looking for my first 944, Besides that make sure you buy the right model 944 for you !

We have quite a good thread running in the 944 section that encompasses some buyers guides

http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=38842

What is your budget and what area of the country are you looking in? Whatever you choose it will be very wise to pay a few hundred to get it inspected by someone who knows these cars (not AA or RAC) as they will pick up any potential problems ££££££3

go for it.

944 has got to be one of the best value for money & most practical of Porsches, an also one of the most active and enthusiastic of PCGB registers [8D]

follow Diver944 advise.. and also look for a car thats got a proven record of being looked after.

Hi Mac,

Since I bought my 944 I've been having all my servicing done by a company near Bolton, Lancs, called Hartech. They produce a 4 part buyers guide which you can download. The most relevant part for you will be part two. Follow this link and have a look: http://www.hartech.org/buyers.html

I've found it to be a pretty good guide - it helped me choose the right car - but I wouldn't like to claim it's exhaustive!

Cheers,

I was thinking of buying a 944 about 4 years ago and was also worried of the pit falls of old porsche ownership. After months of searching for the best I could find and plenty of suggestions from the forum I purchased a 944 Lux 2.5 and I have enjoyed every moment of it. Regular maintenance and servicing is not cheap but considering nothing else has gone wrong since I owned it I would consider it cheap motoring. Depending on your age insurance is reasonable. My only concern is driving 500 miles a week with todays petrol prices.

Like the other links suggest, do your research. Find the best one for you.

If you choose a 944 Lux then I am concidering selling mine. Its not advertised yet but let me know if you are interested in viewing.

At least it's cheaper to keep than the Mrs. Just.
