First Track day

Planning to do my first track day in my new cayman s 2006. The car is bog standard will fsh and has been checked over by a good independant garage.

Are there any worthwhile mods before venturing on track, done a couple of track days last year in wifes coopers s but now have my own beast. Should I fit better brakes etc, dont want to go to mad at first just enjoy the day, Any advice appreciated.
Shaun.

Just enjoy the day, check that all is indeed OK as you will test tyres, engine and brakes far more than on the road. Depending on whether you get the track day bug you can then decide how to proceed but I suggest you establish the car and your baselines first.

As Ralph says I would just enjoy the new car and get a baseline for what it will do For me I just check oil and keep a close eye on tyre pressures through the day adjusting as necessary as the day goes on Tony

Oh, and take a cool down lap with little braking and leave the handbrake off when you come back in

depending how fast you are, you might get smoke billowing out the back, the gen 1 cars only have 1 oil pick up, and also no air to oil separator. You will also get brake fade on stock pads and with stock geo kill the outer edge of your tyres, it will also under steer like a dog. that may sound a bit negative, but that's how it is ;-/ I would not track a gen 1 car at the level I would be taking it round. without a larger sump, motorsport air to oil separator, better pads and a geo.
