Fitment of harnesses.

I had all sorts of bother with this last year. Does anybody have a solution to my problem? On the rear parcel shelf there are only 2 mounting points for the Bracket. Obviously, (or to my mind) there should be 4 to enable 2 sets of harnesses to be fitted. There are 2 further screw points on the shelf, but my man at Tech 9 says these are not for use.....and are too small to screw a suitable bracket into? My concern is that being a lard arse one mounting point locating both attachments would not be sufficient to retain me in a crash. My man at Demon tweeks advises the singular bracket should not be relied on. Car has a factory fit Matter cage and doesn't have the crossbar which most people can rely on.
Cheers.

Some people have the extra holes put in next to the exiting one on the shelf . this area is double skinned and as you point out already has one fitting. This can be a bit costly as to do the job properly can mean removal of the rear screen and access to the engine bay etc. It's not as easy as it first looks! The other solutions are : fit the belt to a proper harness bar such as brey krauss supply (but this might get in the way of the cage), have the cage modded to take a harness crossbar. Or use the fitting's (if they are there!) that are in the rear seat well. This route depends on the fittings being there or having them drilled and also depends on your harness makers instructions and your view on the angle made by the belts in this situation. Most harness makers state that the belts should be not more than 45 degrees from horizontal for the shoulder belts(and ideally horizontal). The seat well fixings are marginal in this respect. You pays yer money and takes your choice. I have mine in the seat wells.

No cage in my car, and it was a ball ache to remove the rear screen and sort out mounting points in the rear deck.

Mine are attached to the seat belt mountings in the rear seat wells as well, running over a harness bar.

Whilst agreeing with the above, it can be done without removing the screen - at least thats how autofarm did it on mine some 8 years ago.
BTW there does seem some inconsistency as to which captive nuts are fitted number seem to vary from 1 to 4.

Other alternative is to mount the eyebolts into the rear bulkhead rather than the parcel shelf, this is where mine are. Probably not as strong a mounting point as the shelf, but I've seen plenty of race cars with it done this way. No need to remove the rear screen and provided a suitable re-inforcement plate is used, it should be adequate.

a) wrap 'em around the cage;

b) Brey Kraus harness bar;

c) remove rear screen and drill and tap extra holes -that's what GT1 did with mine;

d)lose weight....[;)]
