Hi All

I am going over to France in May with the Porsche Owners Club with the Mrs - Just tried to put a cabin bag into the 911 but no joy so need some fitted luggage! Can anyone point me in the right direction and have any suggestions ...?

Many thanks
Andrew

OPCs sell Porsche fitted luggage. If your budget does not stretch to it though you could use 'luggage that fits' i.e. Soft luggage like I do.

The Italian soft luggage - leather is quite nice and fits well, its a bit cheaper than the Porsche specific

Otherwise the medium to small victorianox soft bag fits the front boot perfectly

Roadsterbag do fitted soft luggage, I sent then a request for info and got the below reply. I did a10 day Europe and Portugal try in my 997 with high maintenance wife and two kids...... I used a sheet to line the frunk and packed everything directly in, then has a soft bag to take that days clothes and overnight bag in to the hotel......beats carrying suitcases!

we are currently working on a suitcase set for the 997 4S.

In late april we will offer a version for
Porsche 911 997 4S without CD changer
Porsche 911 997 4S with CD changer

We could send you an e-mail, when the new luggage is available.

best regards

Rene

Andrew

I got a set from Hills Alive, www.hillsalive.co.uk

They have been excellent, Rob and Heather are really helpful. They offer as standard a shaped pair for the front boot and produced a unique size for the rear seats of my car, the unique element is that they fit between the wind deflector and the shellf formed by the rear seat backs when folded down.

Highly recommended company.

Have a good trip.

Best.

Is that the R26 trip, Andrew?

You could try this - but not recommended....[;)]

Hahaha,

Reminds me when i was sitting in Dover waiting to board the ferry last summer, the Customs inspector walked along the line of cars and stopped at my bright red 997 looked at myself, the wife and two kids crammed inside and then asked me to open the bonnet........ I duly obliged and popped the Frunk. Imagine the face when they saw no engine!

Bought two Travel Bags from the local OPC, which we find ideal. Perfect fit in the front storage compartment (one on top of the other). Part number is PWAP.035.111.OF. Maybe a little expensive but great quality as you would expect and will last for years.

Hi TS - Yes the Owners Club trip to Le Mans ... Cant wait! Andrew

Speaking of carrying luggage.

It seems that Porsche had this problem totally nailed with the 'hatch' introduced in the 997 Targa model. Now if they made the rear window of the coupe's lift like in the 997 Targa, the 911 would appeal to a wider audience and I would not consider anything else ever again. Oh and wind down rear windows would be a bonus too, please. I know this is possible since the convertible models rear windows can be wound down.. Then the 911 would be absolutely perfect.

The current design is indeed suitable for the race track AND everyday use unless you want to use it for something other than getting one or two adults from A to B. If you have got luggage to carry around then it all becomes complicated.... Transporting two tyres to my local Able fit garage earlier this week was a bit tricky, could only fit one in the rear and that involved folding passenger and driver seats in various directions until I managed to get one of the into the car, the other tyre had to sit next to me in the passenger seat and just about fit in :( Admittedly these tyres are massive at 305/30/20. Watching the guys take the old ones off the wheels and fit new ones on was interesting as they wrestled with it and at one point one guy was literally hanging off the tyre whilst the other carefully operated his iron bars to catch the rim onto the wheel before the machine took over :)

Coming back to the rear window hatch issue. If anyone offers a conversion service of the rear window, into a hatch, like in the Targa, I would certainly be interested... (see link below for picture of this beautiful design that Porsche has for some reason forgot about).

It says in the brochure of the 997 Targa that "The new 911 Targa 4/4S is the only model variant with a hinged rear window it offers extremely convenient access to the rear luggage space......and therefore makes loading and unloading easier" Absolutely Porsche. So why was the concept shelved or not carried over to all Coupe models? :(
