Fitting 100 cell sports cats

So, can these be fitted by the average wrench monkey, or is there more involved than that eg re-mapping etc. If the latter, can anyone recommend anyone who would do a good set up job, preferably in the south east? I normally use either JZM or RSJ for work on my cars.

Hi Richard,

I was thinking the same thing myself about 100 cell cats. I know this may sound ridiculous but I went to Belgium to have my RSRs fitted by Gert at Carnewal. He is extremely knowledgeable and I am thinking of another 'road trip' to get this piece of work done as well.

What Gert did point out is that the fixings etc are usually in a poor state as well as 'fun' with oxygen sensors so it isn't always a quick job and I believe the main issue is anything that might 'break' or snap when replacing. He also tells me the 100 cell cats do increase the noise level considerably (especially with the RSRs) so it would be great if anyone on the forum can provide any info on if it is 'too' intrusive!

If the pound was stronger right now I would not think twice about carnewal but the other option is Ray Northway who services my car and seems to have encyclopedic knowledge of 993's!

As above,
I did my own de-cat pipes,I had to cut across about 3 of the nuts as they were corroded beyond use.
You will have to remove the rear bumper for good access.
I didnt find it a problem, but allow a bit of time and patience,I think I heated a couple of the nuts up as well.
Best to order all new nuts and bolts as well.
If you fancied the de-cat pipes, just to let you know,my car has passed the cat test 2 years running, with these on.
They sound fantastic, are only £200,save about 10+kgs in wieght off the back end.
If you are near Cheshunt,Herts your welcome to look/listen.

Where did you get them from Dan?

Does one of the sensors fit into the CAT and do the CAT bypass pipes allow the sensor to be refitted? I might be talking complete rubbish but seem to remember something about this topic. Any changes needed to the ECU when you do this?

Ian.

Yep,the sensor bolts into a thread on one of the by-pass pipes.
My MOT,er said that well set up 993s burn the fuel/air mix so well that they dont need cats.
Although if you are burning a bit of oil,it my fail.
My 1st try failed this year, but we held the revs at 4000 for a minute or so and retested it and it passed.
Its a good idea to take the car for a good laruping before you go to the MOT.
As my car spends most of its time on The Ring and the motorway, you can literally rub your finger round the inside of the tail pipes and have a completly clean finger. So mine must be set up /running well[:)]
