Fitting a Pioneer AVIC to my C4S...

I am thinking of fitting a Pioneer AVIC F900 to my '02 (pre-MOST) 4S. Does anyone know...
1.where one gets the surround for the double-DIN screen that mounts in the console
2. whether one needs to get another climate control panel or whether the existing one just moves down
3. whether the dash needs major surgery to get the system and the GPS aerial in?

Cheers

Robert.

Hey Robert
Sometime ago I tried the identical exercise on a brand new Discovery, it was disastrous...[&:][][:(][][:'(]
Unless the fitters have done the identical work before and they can show it to you working, DO NOT DO IT.
Everything seems so easy on paper, and everybody wants you to believe that it is a piece of cake... but then when it comes to the final result, the only persons who might have profited from the exercise are the people who sold you the unit and the installers.
Trust me, it is a sack full of snakes, you just hope the one which will bite will not be fatal...[X(]

I had the AVIC HD1BT in my 996, and it wasn't a problem. I didn't fit it myself, as it was free fitting at the time.

1) I had to make up a small filler for the top of the 'double-din' opening, but there is a chap on Renntech who makes a surround for 986 and 996's specifically for the later AVIC units.

2) You can move the climate control down to the lowest slot. That's where it is fitted on PCM equipped cars. The cable is long enough to reach if you route it carefully. You need a trim surround for it to go in that position, but they are only about £3. I also replaced the CD tray with a cubby.

3) Yes - you have to cut the bar across the plastic frame which now separates the radio and aircon panel, and rework the mounting cage. Again, there is a good fitting thread on Renntech - search for AVIC, and you'll find a thread by 'Mivey'. It shows all the mods you need to do. You can locate the GPS antenna in the same place as the PCM one - in the middle of the dash where the alarm LED is. Just squeeze the cover and it unclips.

Go for it! My AVIC system was brilliant, and I really miss it.

fitted one in my 987 boxster last month, made my own adaptor plate out of metal ,and stuck some yellow foam tube around the unit, doing some digging on the net i found a shop selling the adaptor kit in watford for£300, it comes imported from japan (www.impulsecar.co.uk)
when i had my 986s ,i to was looking to put a double din in ,in the end i put a becker traffic pro in ,because i did not want to cut any of the dash.
