Ok guys next possible moddification question can Bonnet Struts be added to a 924 turbo bonnet replacing the normal rod to hold it up?
if so dose anyone know if this is difficult i am having the bonnet resprayed and wondered weather this could be done at the same time as well?
has any one done this if so do you have any photos?

im guessing some brackets would have to be made up etc

thanks Chris

Many 944 owners just use a cut down broomstick...the OEM struts have a reputation for not lasting, and are said to be tricky to replace. If you have a "manual" bonnet stay I'd say you have something we'd all like instead of the struts!!

Mine are OK (but not so good in cold weather). I keep meaning to check the struts supporting the bonnet on my Saab to see if they're the same length and fitting. That would be handy...they last just fine and are cheap and plentiful.

Apparently there is a danger of breaking the windscreen trying to get the struts on.
They do get a bit floppy mind.

Indeed. If you push the bonnet up to get the new struts on you can crack the corner of the screen. You need to compress the struts rather than force the bonnet. I'd rather have a bonnet support than the struts, as Graham suggested!

I can't comment on the Turbo bonnet issue but even a straight swap of struts on a N/A 924 is a two man job. They are very difficult to compress but I guess they have to be to support the weight of the bonnet. Very satisfying job though.

Almost as satisfying as replacing the tailgate struts and having it pop up of its own accord when you press the switch. Less satisfying is the fact that the struts seem to have a life of about 6 -12 months before they no longer have the oomph to open the tailgate (on a 968 anyway).

Thanks guys im sticking with the bonnet stay it seems more difficult than first thought!
thought i would find out though.
The car is in the garage being resprayed at the moment has been in there a week should be back next week hopefully.
