Fitting Electric Seats

Hi, my 1986 3.2 has electric seats fitted but they have never been wired in. I have now purchased some 993 seats and wish to wire them in. Does anyone know of the best place to take power from? I know the ECU is under the drivers seat. Any info would be appreciated.

According to Bentley, 86-89 cars take the electric powered seats power from fuse 2 in the luggage compartment. The seat heating, for some reason (too much current ?) comes from fuse 1. Both of these fuses are live at all times.

The fuse box is divided into 3 parts, and these fuses (25A) are 1/2, starting from the cockpit end.

Bit technical, maybe, but the book is a bit confusing, picture wise, and the car is in the garage (and I'm too lazy to look ?)

hi ,
john is right, the power is direct frrom the fuse box and is wired befor the fuse as the seat has all the ness relays and things in them. reason is that if you were in an accident the seats could be opparated without the key being on. this i read from an old 911 and porsche world help page.

thanks for the info guys. I know it's lazy but to save running another cable through the car and under the dash I was wondering whether there was anywhere safe under the passenger seat to splice the power off? The car did have an immobiliser that took its power from somewhere around the ECU (this has been removed), I was wodering whether I could nick some power and just fuse it well. Any thoughts?

Methinks that, as the fuse in position 2 is 25A, then the seat motors must draw a lot of current. So, there won't be anywhere else with this available (certainly not the immobiliser).

The power cable will probably be already fitted through the bulkhead (standard wiring looms), the cable from fuse 2 is marked 'red/red tape' - it is also connected to the A/C.
Anyway, worth finding it, as you know it will have all the power you need, and will work correctly.
