Fitting fuel pump - advice

Hi

Need to fit a new fuel pump at the weekend as the 30 year old original one has stopped working - no longevity to parts these days......

Anyway, two questions:

1. Are there any special considerations to think of when fitting the new fuel pump? I have orderd new hoses, rubber mountings etc to replace the old rusted parts but is this anything more than just a straight swap.

2. As can be seen from the photo below the original rubber mountings have come away from their mounting and I will have to drill out the original part, however I am a little nervous doing this in such a tight area and near the fuel tank / pump etc. There is a slight smell of fuel from when I was checking it out previously so I can put a rag around the pump and so on but I wondered if there was another way of doing it? I don't think there is but then most of those on this forum are better spannerers than me so you might have an alternative.

Cheers
Spence

If you haven't done already I'd fit a new fuel filter as well.

Looking at your photos it appears that the fuel pump on the Lux is exposed to the elements ?

On the turbo/S2 it sits in a 2-piece metal shield that at first glance looks like part of the tank, is this not the case on the Lux ?

Surely the petrol tank on the Lux and other models are the same ?

Yours

Chris

I think it may have been added with oval dash. AFAIK squares have metal tanks and oval plastic. May be wrong?
