Fitting Garmin sat nav in 986 2 Boxster

Hi fellow Boxsterers,
I'm the very proud new owner of my first ever Porsche, a Boxster 986 2. Admittedly I could have picked a better year for such an exciting endeavour, but hopefully we'll all be properly back on road soon! Anyroad up, back to my question. I have also purchased a Garmin Sat Nav (Drivesmart 55) and have been investigating ways of fitting it in my new dream car - without sticking on the windscreen! The twin cupholders do pop out at a very suitable angle, and I did see a mention of this as a suitable place on another forum. Has anyone ever devised such a fitting? Or the other place might be the 4xCD drawer fitting, with the drawers removed....
Any ideas from other esteemed Boxster owners would be appreciated....

Hi Richard,

I'm in the same boat, bought mine in November, but I'm still working so at least get two 20 minutes trips a day in it so can't grumble.

Sorry I can't help you with your dilema, but just saying hello and welcome[:)]

Good afternoon Philip,
Thanks for the reply.
Glad to hear you're getting some use from your 987, looks great in the pic! Just enough time to warm up the engine eh?!
For that very reason, I've sometimes taken the circuitous route via undulating country roads on a few trips for essential shopping etc[8D]
Keep safe
Richard

Two further options.

First, this. I have one in my Macan and to be honest the magnetic connection isn't ideal though I've not used it much.

Second, and I'm a big fan of this approach because it works brilliantly especially if you can permanently attach a mount to their bracket

I've had several of these brackets over the years

I used a Brodit Proclip solution in my 986, including the swivel mounted phone clamp. It worked well and didn’t require any drilling or sticking to the car. In my 981 I have a Brodit Proclip again which just slots in without drilling or sticking, this time with a short Wuteku magnetic swivel mount for the phone - that works well too, but might not be ideal for the Garmin, because it might obscure some switches etc. Worth checking the Brodit site - they appear to do specific mounts for most Garmins on the 986 Proclip base https://www.brodit.co.uk/

I was struggling with a Garmin Navi and a dashcam, so 3D printed this "all in one" holder. The Navi slots in the front and the top part is the mount for the dashcam. Works really well, and avoids having anything stuck to the windscreen/obscuring view. It also looks a bit better than having stuff stuck all over the place. Yes, I know that USB cable is split, I'll replace it!

The mount itself is held on with 3M Command strips which, in theory, are supposed to be removable when necessary. We'll see. The bits of paper stuck under the "arms" are because the model wobbled and eventually worked itself free of the command strip velcro, leading to that well-known enjoyment of camera/satnav flying off the dash at the most inconvenient moment. Ideally I'd like to model the exact shape of that part of the dash so it fits snugly, which would also allow for a more aesthetic, less boxy, design, but I'm struggling to find a way to get that model precisely right - if it's not exactly right, it's as good as useless, so it needs some form of scanning or very extensive trial and error.
