Fitting harness'es ??

I've come to the conclusion it would be good to have a harness fitted to the car for trackdays, the only issue that I think I'm going to have is were to mount the upper belt?

Basicaly you really are not supossed to have the belt at an angle greater than 45 degrees, so I can't use a rear seat belt mouting point it needs to be further back than that. Has anyone carried this out on either a 944 or 924 and could give me any pointers?

Thanks in advance!

Ste, you're right abouth the harness angle. Best although not cheap solution would be to fit a half cage in the rear with a harness bar like I have in the Golf. Should go some way to stiffening up the shell too.

Thats one thing I had wanted to avoid, I don't want to "cage" mainly because the insurance will sky rocket. The harness will be fitted when needed and not used on the road. I have seen pictures of a 924 race car with the harnesses heading for the rear tyre well area and just wondered how that worked, what the attachments looked like?

I agree, my insurance will not change when I get a cage fitted; it's a safety item and that's how they told me they will view it.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]In any case BigDave has a Brey Krause harness bar in his S2 and it looked really good. Not cheap though.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Which mounting points does the BK harness bar fit into, is it the upper mount for the existing rear seat belts?

I saw a very good harness bar in a 944 at Walton Hall last year. The bar itself was straight and fitted just above and behind the back of the rear seats. This way you could still use the rear seats, and the bar could always be left in place (unless you wanted to fold the rear seat to carry a TV, microwave etc

I wish I could remember where he got it, but I'm sure it was one of the usual UK suppliers (Porscheshop, Design911 etc)

The Brey Krause one mounts to the top seatbelt mounts but kicked off backward and triangulated down to the bottom mounts as far as I remember.

Yes ive got the BK one fitted in my S2....+ NICE + neat it is too...
hopefully the pic of it is here....

That looks quite neat but if you have a look at this add from Piston heads you can see the belts traveling all the way to the rear of the car, slight snag is you cannot tell were the belts connect. I just wondered if this was a viable option as it would save on the cost of a harness bar?

I think the PH photo shows them at too steep an angle. It's amazing how many cars you see with dangerous harness fitment (in a crash they compress the spine if they angle down too much from the shoulders, which is obviously a bad thing. I think it's 15 degrees maximum (either way) rather than 45 degrees that is permissible).[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]I happened to find a 1995 Car magazine this week where they bought a 944 2.7 (for £10,495) and had Porsche prepare it to race on the weekend for another £5k (almost). In that the harness fitted was far too low from the shoulders, probably attaching to the rear seatbelt bottom mounts I think.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]On the BK bar I was slightly wrong then; it triangulates to the rear upper mounts, not the front lowers. That makes a lot more sense of course.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]
