fitting new stereo

daws

New member
looking to replace the head unit on my 98 boxster. I currently have a touch screen jvc, but want to replace it with my alpine 9853r. had a quote at halfords they said it might need a harness adapter, and would cost around £80 if it did fitted and half that if not.
Has anyone else used them before? would you reccomend i went to a hi fi specialist? Is there anything i should tell them? as i know the alarm is wired into the stereo.

Not used Halfords, but the job is very easy - especially if you use the existing harness/ or adaptor.

I take it Halfords are prepared to stump up the cost of a new loom if they mess it up?
Starting at a 4-figure number...

I'm not sure the alarm is wired into the stereo on the original fitment so I'm not sure how it is on your JVC. On the CR21 I had it was attached to the frame, but I taped it up when fitting a frameless CR22 (it was a long time ago though...) Does the JVC have a frame it mounts into? Is the alarm connector attached to that?

Not sure paul, The jvc was in the car when i bought it, it hs its own cage but not sure about the alarm.
regards dawson.
