Fitting of new spoiler wall to 1990 C4

I was told recently that my spoiler wall was either missing or split, so checked it and it was split. I ordered a new one from Porscheshop as they offered a 5% discount to PCGB members. On unpacking it I noticed that it was part number 993.512.121.00 and probably compatible with my car. I tried fitting it a couple of days later with the spoiler on the car but only 3/4 raised as recommended on the Rennlist forum. For the life of me I couldn't get the top to click in on to the spoiler and so I thought I might as well take the spoiler off, as it only had 4 allen headed fixings holding it on. I tried but couldn't again get it to click in as it should do.
At this point I decided to measure the slot on the new spoiler wall and found it to be around 3.2mm. I checked the thickness of the spoiler where the wall would fit on and found it to be around 2.6mm. So there was no way that this new wall would stay in place at all. Porscheshop said it was the correct part as the 964 part was superseded by the 993 part. I'm wondering if anyone else has come across this and what they did to correct it? I have seen advertised a 964/993 rear spoiler 'seal' and was thinkong that this could be what I need? Any help would be most appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Brian, yes you have the right part. It is indeed a 993 number. It's easy to fit and no dismantling needed. Have a look at the thread below where RSgulp (Rich) gives some instructions:

Thanks Steve for the reply. However on a closer inspection of the old strip that I took off the spoiler as compared to the new wall - it's never going to click on because the new wall's barb isn't as pronounced as the old one and also the slot that fits on to the spoiler IS wider than what it fits on to! I am going to send it back and get my money back as without " bodging " things, it is NEVER going to click on. In the meantime I will try to patch up the old wall with tape etc. as I know I will be able to click the top in place. At least I'll be able to drive the car!! Brian. P.S. I'll make another post when I fix it for sure!

I know this doesnt help but PCGB members get 10% of parts from OPC.

Suggest you order from nearest OPC, then try and firt when you are there and then get them out of the parts dept to fit and any damage or fixes will be down to them to sort out!

Thanks for this advice Gordon, I might just do what you say. I only ordered it through Porscheshop because they give a 5% discount for PCGB members and the postage would have cost less than driving to the Cheshire Oaks Porsche Centre and back from where I live. The part from Porscheshop was a genuine Porsche part, so you would think that it would fit properly, wouldn't you? I have sent it back to Porscheshop today for a full refund, but of course the cost of sending it back is down to me. I'm disappointed to say the least, and am going to try and repair the original spoiler wall with some thick, sticky duct type tape for now, so at least I can drive it around. At least I'll be able to get it attached properly!! I'll post an update when I get it replaced properly.

Fitted mine today - easy job, quite surprised. Providing you have the spoiler not fully up, fitting the new curtain is very straight forward. The small section on to the top edge took a bit of force but with some WD40 it was on, the bottom just clicks in. Very easy and took no more than 30 minutes, most of the time was spend cleaning up around the old curtain area of oil borne dust and dirt. A quick polish and it was all much as Porsche intended. Bought mine, mail order from Design911. Proper Porsche part (993.512.121.00) came in at £82.10 including delivery and the dreaded VAT. Expensive for a bit of extruded plastic but there we are. Good as new.

Picked up a new one at the Cheshire Oaks Porsche Centre and it looks the biz. As soon as I inspected it I knew it would click on. Cost was £62.29 with 10% club discount. I have, though, repaired the old one and it looks fine so I may see how long it lasts!!
