Dear All,
Again im sure this has been discussed before but i have just bought some rear boxes for my year 2000 996 (thanks v.much to Gordon on this forum) and was wondering if its possible to fit them without taking off the rear bumper - the guy who is fitting them has asked me to find out - any thoughts most welcome
Thanks

No need to remove the bumper. Just take off the rear wheels and you will have plenty of access. Get a new set of clamps before you start, as they will probably be rusted solid and need cutting off.

Thanks for that Richard - are they porsche only clamps or will an exhaust place have them ? where is best place to get them ?
Thanks again
Angus

AFAIK they are Porsche-specific, or at least, I don't know any equivalents. You can get them from an OPC (don't forget to ask for PCGB discount), or other places like Porscheshop or Type911, etc. IIRC they are about £30 a set.

Angus,

how much did the silencers cost The baffles rattle in mine and I keep thinking I should change them before they annoy the neighbours

When I changed mine, the silencer to tips clamps were solidly rusted on . I had decided to get new Dansk tips anyway so got new clamps for £20 per pair.
The cat to silencer sleeve clamps weren't too bad but the bolts had to be cut off with a Dremel although an angle grinder would have been easier and quicker. Those clamps are about £15+vat each so you may want to reuse them with new nuts and bolts if you cut those off carefully. I bought new sleeve clamps to save any grief but the old ones were still usable.

Ian, check out the members for sale - someone has a pair going - as an idea - I have seen pairs on eBay for £180-200
Hope this helps
Angus
