Fitting of upgraded tail pipes

Hi all
I am about to upgrade the standard tailpipes on my 2001 facelift C4 (to nice new shiny quad ones) and would like to know whether it is an easy diy job, or whether I should have them fitted. I hae climbed under to have a look and the tricky bit looks to be getting access to the bolts on the clamps. Had anyone done this themselves and have any tips/suggestions?
Many thanks

When I did my bypass mod, the clamps were so badly rusted that I ended up cutting the clamps off and fitting new ones. I couldn't even see the hexagon shape of the clamp nut they were so bad. The silencers were off the car when I did this, BTW.

The clamp nuts are 16mm, so I would see if you can get a socket or spanner on them first. If so, give them a good squirt of penetrating oil before you start. It's much easier if you have the car in the air on a lift. but otherwise try and borrow a decent set of ramps if you don't already have them.

The part number of the clamp is 996.111.108.00 and they are £7.47+VAT each.

I had the same problem as Richard, a combination of the exhaust heat and rust had made the clamp bolts impossible to shift. I attempted the change with the exhaust on the car with it jacked up. I did eventually get the bolts undone but it took me a couple of hours with a combination of WD40, brute force and lots of swearing!!
If you can apply lots of WD40 24 hrs in advance of the work and get the car onto a hydraulic ramp, I think the job would be easier and quicker.

Good luck!

Can i ask you where you got your quad tailpipes from, and how much you paid, i was thinking of doing the same with my car, they look so much better.

Hi
Many thanks for all your replies - sounds like it could be quite a task! I haven't bought them yet, but have seen a few sets around, notibly at design911.com.
Cheers

Hi Phil
I got them yesterday form design911 for £199 plus £65 fitting (naturally all + VAT!). It took them over an hour to fit, so in my mind it was money well spent. They look the business and add and aggressive (but subtle) touch to the back end.

Here you go, a couple of pics. Not great quality as taken on my phone, but it gives you the idea.
