Fitting Stone Guards

Having got my pride & joy beautifully polished I have spent this afternoon trying to fit a set of new stone guards to the wheel arches.
I bought them from Prestige Parts - a reputable supplier of Porsche bits (?)
But - a very disappointing outcome.
The fit of the two long thin strips for the back of the arches was very poor, almost impossible to follow th curve of the arch, and there is no way of avoiding handling the adhesive surfaces while fitting them, resulting in nice fingerprints for all to see!
The large guard for the front of the rear arch was a better fit, but again when stuck on looked awful, just a bit of sticky plastic, and very difficult to avoid air bubbles.
In the end I have removed them all they looked so bad, and will send them back to PP.


Anyone else had experience of fitting these and if so how do you make a good job of it?

Is the only answer to buy the proper items from OPC and get their body shop to fit them?
 
Are you sure you weren't trying to put the fronts on the back and vice versa?[FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]I haven't tried Keith's stoneguards, but everything else he sells is top notch in my experience (his carbon fibre trim for Boxster and 996 is awesome), which leads me to be surprised if they really don't fit.[FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]The OPC ones won't be any easier to fit. You should liberally coat the area in a solution of water and washing up liquid and carefully peel the backing off as you apply the sticker. You can slide it around for a short time on the soap solution to get the alignment correct and squeeze air-bubbles to the edge.[FONT=verdana,geneva"]

None of the stickers were marked so it is not easy to tell which is front or back, only by removing them from their backing and holding them against the arch.
Also there were no instructions at all, so I was just sticking them on, not using soapy water or anything, which obviously would be much easier if you can slide them around into position.
 
If you have OPC ones it's easier to tell which is which then, as the backing is cut very close to the shape of the stoneguard as I recall.[FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]Soapy water is most definitely key. I am absolutely horrendous at anything than involves even a hint of dexterity or artistic flair and I managed to fit a set of stoneguards and a Turbo decal to my car without having to be embarrassed when other people see it using Fairy liquid.[FONT=verdana,geneva"]

I'll give Keith a ring tomorrow and ask him if they should be fitted with soapy water.
Hopefully he'll give me another set to replace these ones.
 
On a related matter I took one of my original stome guards off and have tried to stick it back on using various adhesives to no avail. Anyone got any ideas? Also how much are new ones?
 
New ones are about £35 a set from Keith at Prestige Parts. Like Fen I have always found their goods that I have bought to be great quality & value for money.

Just a side question, should you fit white or clear guards on a white car ??? I'm just about to do the same as Steve, so thanks for the tip Fen
