Fixed my electric window!

Finally found time to investigate why the passenger window would not work on my car.

The fact that it would not work from either of the two switches coupled with the fact that the driver's side worked perfectly, ruled out any relay or fuse issue as both sides work through the same fuse and relay.

So I carefully removed the doorcard (RS style on my car), without losing any of the screws (!) and had a poke about.

As a process of elimination, I removed the door switch for the driver's window and tried that in place of the one on the passenger door, still nothing, so not the switch!

I checked for current at the connector for the switch and there was some - not sure if there was enough, but definitely a feed there of sorts!

Having read a post on Rennlist about a similar problem, I dug out the allen key socket and winder from the toolkit, slotted it through the centre of the drive gear in the door (just under where the tweeter speaker would ordinarily sit) and proceeded to manually wind the window down - ie the mechanism wasn't siezed, although it did seem to free up a fair bit after a few winds up and down.

Ever the optimist, I reconnected the switch, closed my eyes, and prayed to the god of old Porsches whilst pressing the switch - bingo, the window slid down as if by magic!

Whilst I was in there I took the opportunity to grease the sliders and pivots on the mechanism. I also treated all of the switches to some contact cleaner spray to eliminate any crud and muck from the years gone by.

Happy days, now got two windows working![:)]

Whilst I was on a roll, I also managed to remove the rear seat backrests and tidy up some of the wiring under the rear shelf.

Just need to work out where that annoying squeak is coming from over bumps now, either rear/side window rubber or some rear trim, although it is now better after spraying various bits with silicon lubricant[8|]

I had the same problem with mine and it was almost the same fix. Some minor adjustments of the mechanism cured it - there was an allen bolt (left middle of door) that could be slackened and the mechanism adjusted to stop the glass catching in the frame.
