Fizz, pop, followed by Bang!

Just had the oddest component failure [&:]

Was driving along with the heated rear window on due to the inclement weather when we heard a fizzing sound from the rear, shortly followed by a pop and then a bang accompanied with an acrid burning smell.

Turns out the plastic end of the shock that attaches to the rear hatch had completely melted and then popped off its mount as the shock expanded under its own internal pressure. New hatch shocks required (and a good look at the wiring to see what caused the meltdown). The heated rear window was working fine as well [&:]

Sure it wasn't the backing track to your Air Guitar album?

Ok, ok I give in. I'll give you back your damned album (I just wish I hadn't posted a photo of it in the first place) [:D]

Whilst we're at it, can I have my Nolans 20 Golden Greatest back too :ROFLMAO:

Aw, fanks!

What about the Carpenters one? And Mrs zcacogp is still enjoying Kiri te Kanawa's "Greatest Hits" - I'll send that one along when she's finished with it ...

I had exactly the same thing happen last year - managed to replace the connection and it worked fine - the struts were ok. I eventually replaced the hatch - which fixed the leak[:D], but 3 of the heater elements dont work []

Nothing wrong with air guitar by the way.... LIL has the entire Led Zeppelin collection and nothing else is allowed in....

I've got some spare struts if required.

A9 has from John Holt to Fairport Convention to Lynyrd Skynyrd.

This is turning into a music thread... Nice one!
The 944S car has had Guided by Voices Do the Collapse in it for a few weeks and I'm still not bored with it, not their best album but great for in the car.

Hmmm, a mixture of good and bad in the S2 at the moment going from The Doors - LA Woman to Alan Parsons Project Eye in the Sky[&:].

In my black 944 i still have the Blaupunkt tape player and listen to old hissy tapes i made back in the day,my Queen live magic tape has for some reason warped now and is like a bannana[&:][:D]!Anyone else still have cassettes in theirs?
Paul-that is a weird one..!

I have to say I indulge my love of obscure German electronic stuff while driving. There are a number of Schiller albums kicking around in the S2 at the moment (and I think my sister-in-law is giving me "Nacht und Tag" for Christmas, which will be GREAT!)
