Flat Acceleration

Hi Guys,

I've had my SC for three weeks and have just had it serviced. I was having problems with it on cold start. It didn't want to seem to idle. The garage did something to the mixture which has sorted it our. However, ever since then it gets to about 4500rpm / 5000rpm and is reluctant to go any further...............

.................any ideas before I take it to a garage and they tell me its a whole list of things!?

Thanks
Richie

If it simply won't go any faster and it doesn't misfire stick your head in the engine bay whilst someone pushes the throttle pedal to the floor (engine off) and check the throttle is about 1/8' from the throttle stop. It's common to have a pporly adjusted throttle on an SC or similar 911. What other problems do you have perhaps you could list them and we can help out.

Thanks Bones,

Well.....

The cold idle is sorted and it is going in to a different garage on Monday to look atte acceleration thingy. The car is sound other than that and the oil level and fuel gauges don't appear to work. The fuel gauge is stuck at 3/4 and the oil level gauge drops as you accelerate.....both fuel and oil levels in reality are fine.

Oh, and when it does getaround to accelerating I get a wierd knocking whic sounds as if it is coming from the rear off side quarter....could this be suspension or a bush of sorts?

As the moderator for this sectioncan you tell me why under my name it says I am a non-member? I am a PCGB memeber, how can I change this?
Sorry to load this all on you in my first post!!

Other than that I am loving finally being a 911 owner. they say you should never meet your heros....rubbish, I grin everytime I think about it!

Thanks.

I forgot welcome Richie. The person who would normally change your status to PCGB Member has just left HQ . I don't have the power to change your status email admin they can

The knocking is most likely a drive shaft unless the engine is bug***** - unlikely - especially if it seems worse on corners. Could be a front strut.

1. Pressure gauge should read about 0-1 bar at idle with a hot engine, then for every thousand rpm approx 1 bar, it should fluctuate rapidly in sympathy with the revs you are using i.e. if you are driving at 5,000rpm the needle will be at the top of the gauge, immeadiately you brake and loose revs the gauge will drop to match those lower revs.
2. Temperature , well mine just sits about 8 '0' clock unless it's a very hot day and I'm caning the engine.
3. Oil level will read highest with the car at tickover and the engine hot as soon as you pull away this should drop into the red sector and stay there. Keep an eye on the oil level and with the engine hot, on level ground and with the engine running the oil should ideally be midway between the two markers on the dip-stick.
Try using the search facility for answers to your questions there is a fair bit of info here.

Thanks again Bones,

I don't like the drive shaft theory. To be honest, it sounds as if somthong is loose in the rear wheel arch than anything else........it doesn't sound mechanical in that sense...........I hope.

I'll get on to admin to change my profile - Thanks

Well, well, well......its fixed.

I'm not sure what the last garage was on about, but Addspeed in Horsham are ace. They picked my car up at about 11 and had it back to me by 4 all fixed.

The guys who did the service didn't alter the mixture correctly. Basically Addspeed get to the problem straight away without any.....ooooo thats gonna cost you! or not sure what it is we'll take a look...............

The problem was that the sensor plate needed centralising and the air pump needed to be disconnected to have the CO% altered.......runs light new!

Happy bunny again![:)][:D]

That's great news it seems like Addspeed are a good company you're the second happy customer in as many weeks on this forum.
