Flat Battery... How do I open the bonnet??

All,

I have a 2001 Boxster S with a now flat battery... I can get into the car but their isn't enough juice to pop the bonnet. I'm sure this is a common problem... Does anyone have any bright ideas?

Thanks in advance

Down at the right side of the driver footwell is a fuse panel (it has the switch to raise/lower the spoiler in it)
Pull the cover off this panel, and there is a terminal that pulls out for the +ve terminal of a jump lead. Put the -ve lead on the door catch (don't do this with the engine running on the "donor" car - better still have a standalone battery). This will allow the normal switch to work to open the bonnet. Then you can jumpstart/charge as usual.

If this doesn't make sense - there are instructions in a little paper foldout inside the back of the plastic fuse panel cover.

alternatively (and that is a little known trick), there is a mechanical pull in above the door mechanism of the driver' s side. A little cable that you pull. It opens the bonnet. I have had a similar issue recently.

is there the same mechanical pull on the 987 ? This was going to be my first question as a new member! I have bought the trickle charger so was hoing if i plugged that in it might work but the more i look into it the more i don't think this will work. I just want to get to the battery!

Er... No that is for the fuel filler flap. [:D]

You get to the battery (if it's flat) in the same way as I described above.

thanks for the help so far - popped the bonnet ok as per instructions, left the battery on charge over the weekend but it didn't take. I've had this with other cars when the battery is up down all the time so will need to get a new one....trickle charger is now in the post. One question - I couldn't for the life of me get the plastic cover to fit flush back over the battery. One corner near the screen or the other was sticking up, seemed to be feeding the tas at the base ok. Is there a knack to this or do I need to adjust any surrounding trim to get it to fit? Couldn't see anything obvious.....
thanks
