Flat Battery time of year!

Hi
any ideas to combat the above?
after only 7 days of inactivity I was reduced to jumpstarting this morning[&o]
the two options I'm toying with are either the stronger battery option (is this a dealership retro fit job? or just shop for a better battery?) or something like the accumate battery maintenance system.
over the Winter I am only likely to be able to use my car at weekends so will always be a week or so between starts.
any help and advice will as always be gratefully received

[8D]Hi Andrew ... I invested in what Porsche speak is called a battery conditioner gizzmo circa £35.00 ... Bottom line is you plug gizzmo into cigarette lighter socket and then the other end into the mains socket. This will trickle charge your battery and when fully charged it turns itself off or back on as necessary. The idea being, no more flat batteries, also this will extend the life of the actual battery as it will never go flat etc Apparently it's the jump
starting scenario that weakens the batteries plates and can lead to an early death through buckled dead plates etc ......

As I only use my Boxster at the weekends, weather permitting [:D] so far had car 8 months and yet to get wet [:D][:D] come the rough winter spells I will plug in and keep my battery in A1 shape like the rest of the car so far ...Cheers Rob

Part No. 000 044 900 25 .. It's an official spare part and surprise surprise it's made in Germany for Porsche ... Not your usual Chinese jobbie [:D]Rob

Reason i bought one of these was from information from one of your posts about 4-6 months ago and dont regret it either.

The way it monitors the battery is awesome....does not cook it either.

Battery should stand up for more than a week. I have never had a problem and my car has stood for up to 7 weeks without being charged. Probably some parasitic current or knackered battery.
 
thanks to all who have responded - I'm now armed with a couple of options to put into effect!
In reply to Lawrence my car is just 2 years old, but I've not used the car for any medium-long runs for a while - perhaps it needs a long spin?

I use a battery float charger/conditioner called an "Airflow". Same sort of thing as an Accumate, and no doubt the same as the Porsche one too. In fact I have two of them, as I have a couple of motorbikes and these things are a must, especially if you have any sort of alarm, as they drain current. They are sufficiently intelligent that you can use them on cars, or even lawnmowers with batteries.

They also come with a "tail" which you attach discreetly to the battery, and tuck out of the way, and the device plugs into this. About £39 a go, and worth every penny.

They work by monitoring the voltage of the battery, and supplying a level of current in adverse proportion to the voltage; so, they should work on most 12v lead acid batteries.
This also means that they won't work if the battery is completely flat, as they need a minimum voltage to work.
They are also current limited, so if you tried to start the engine with it connected, then it would come to no harm - I have managed to short circuit the leads, and the device just recovered when the s/c was removed (luckily !).
