flat battery

Im trying to get into my boot, i came back to find the car lifless & as flat as a fart..not a glimmer of power anywhere. Thing is i need to get into the boot to either charge the battery or replace it.
I usually , just clik the boot button, the key does not seem to open the boot...how do i get in , to get access to the battery , please ??

Either climb onto the boot from the passenger area, pull back the carpet at the back of the boot & pull the chord to manually open the boot, or if you have another battery connect it to the positive post under the bonnet (look for a blue plastic cover next to the heater inlet on the offside) and a good earth on the shell somewhere.
 
Hi there,you can either climb over the back seat, unpop the press studs along the rear of the hatch and physically pull the bowden cables going from the actuator motor to the catches or if you open the bonnet just next to the off sde of the heater blower you will find a blue hex plastic cap with a thick wire running under it,if you unscrew the blue cap it uncovers a terminal that allows you to connect a positive jump lead,connect the other lead to anything onder the bonnet that will give you a good earth,this will then power your system to release the boot.DO NOT USE THIS CONNECTOR TO JUMP START THE CAR AS ALTHOU THE WIRE IS THICK IT IS NOT THICK ENOUGH TO POWER THE STARTER. Once in the boot you can jump start you car as per normal,hope this helps John.
 
oooooooops forgot to mention its a soft top ..Thanks i'll get under the bonnet to the 'blue'cap ..many many thanks ..
 
On my 944 Lux 1986 I dont seem to have a button near the bonnet release to open the boot. i have similar prob that the boot keyhole is frozen and the boot lid stuck down with ice, Guess I will have to climb through. Although I didnt kno about the neat idea of using the positive post under the bonnet - do I have that on my Lux? steve
 
Only later cars which have an electrically operated hatch release (electric at the back of the car, irrespective of whether you have an electric release button in the cabin), have the terminal under the windscreen. All series two cars should have an electronic hatch release. Its in the right hand side of the cabin though (alongside your right calf), not the left, which is where youll find the bonnet release lever. You car uses cables, so the only way to open the hatch if its all frozen up (although Id warm the car up myself, and wait, using nothing more than a hot key) is to pull the cables found behind the boot carpet along the rear panel. my 86 oval dash car didn't have the post and had a cable operated key release, I would guess all cars with the post have a key that works a microswitch. The post should have a blue cover and is in the scuttle area near the black vacuum store cylinder.
 
The boot release is on the drivers side - opposite from the bonnet release on the rhd cars. On my boot, the key operates the cable release cam mechanically, the switch operates the motor mounted near the o/s rear light which pulls a cable which operates the release cam! I know on the S2 the key operates a switch with no mechanical connection. Dont know when it changed. Mike

Yes. 1989 model year cars onwards use miroswitch and have the terminal.
 
ORIGINAL: sc0tty Whilst on the subject of batteries, does anyone use a ctek xs3600 charger? if so, have you noticed that if you have the charger on ice mode, it wont go into maintenance mode? ie the 'half' battery icon will flash, and the full battery light will be green.
I think Ice mode is for charging a depleted battery. If your car is in storage over winter just leave it in maintenance mode.

I have an accumate which seems to work fine. I tend to alternate between this and a Maplin solar battery conditioner for the Caterham and the lawnmower this time of year. So far so good.
 
I just disconnect the negative terminal when the car is not in use. 8 or 10 mil spanner. Job done! No more flat batteries!
 
I need the battery for the car alarm. I have a solar pannel wich I connect sometimes. Need to get a conditioner though

Sadly I can't help re the ice light question. But re Petes question , I have a CTEK XS800 which is a basic one that I bought on Flea Bay for about 30 pounds all in. It is like his one to look at but with less lights and no ice mode. There's a pic of one on my blog. It does a good job and I would recommend it to anyone. Cheers
 
I have the ctek zafir 90 which is exactly the same as yours, just double checked the manual to confirm what mine does. It is connected at the moment on ice mode, yellow light for charging is on initially but this then moves onto the green light for maintenance after a short period of time. When I check on it it is sometimes on yellow charging mode before going back to maintenance mode so I can only assume that this is part of the cycling process. FYI - mine was about £28 brand new from Costco, I think they still stock them so could check when I'm next in if anybody is interested or doesn't have a card.
