Flat battery

Hi Guys

Need your advice!

The car has been getting slower to start recently, so I ordered a Ctek from amazon after reading other posts how good they are and as I only use the car at weekends. Over the weekend all ok so i thought I will use it this week until the Ctek arrives but this morning it barely turns over. Will the Ctek restore the battery or time for a replacement do you think it is now 4 years old.

Hard to say, I think. The Ctek may well breathe a new lease of life into the battery with it's conditioning function but may well only be a stay of execution! If a long drive is not charging the battery enough to give it plenty of oomph the next day then it sounds like it's not holding the charge. Worth giving th Ctek a go before you splash out on a new one I imagine.

Thanks Captain

Thats the main problem too many stop start short journeys [:(]. I will give the Ctek a go and see what happens!!

Cheers JP.

time for a new battery i fear, had same problem got a new battery and problem resolved and seeing you have a c-tek charger now you will be able to keep it in tip top shape.

Cheers

I am hoping the Ctek will give it enough to get it going so that I may go and contribute to my local Porsche center Christmas Fund [:)]

Cheers JP

You could well find that the Ctek will give it a new lease of life - seems conditioners also somehow clean the plates. I know from my own experience that they extend the life of a battery - the one in my968 coupe was nearly 9 years old and still going strong when I sold the car, and althought I used the car not a lot, it was always on a conditioner when in the garage (as is my current 968!).

At 4 years of age I'd suggest the battery is on it's way out.
For 4 years my car stood for weeks on end and started everytime, almost to the day at 4 years the battery died! a cell failure and even with a major booster the thing didn't want to start!!
New battery and the car no sits for weeks and starts first time.. never had a charger on it and it's never really given me a reason to need one (until now obviously [])

Thanks Guys

The general view then is a new battery, I will get the Ctek on it to hopefully get enough charge to get it started then get it to the local PC.

Thanks again.

Just a thought is the battery covered under the terms of the extended warranty ?
No.. not under extended
but the battery itself maybe under its own warranty if it has been changed in the past.

Thanks Gary

I will get it changed at the PC just as soon as there enough juice in the battery in order to get it going! Thanks for all the replies though[:)]

Its not cheap at the OPC but sadly for warranty we have to use their battery
The bill consists of a battery, acid pack and if they can get away with it they will charge a silly amount for fitting!!
Discuss the fitting and remember the 10% from the club membership-as a minimum.

You are close to me in location, so you may well use the same dealer... they did the discount and will probably do you aload check if required.

Hi

Just had a quote today for a new battery from my local PC, with the discount and fitted £216.00 does this sound reasonable? I connected the Ctek earlier and it was almost flat the guideline in the instructions is 17 hours so hopefully off to have a new battery tomorrow[:)]

Cheers

It is the same battery and worth doing yourself, however if you have extended warranty the OPC will fail the renewal with that said battery fitted.

Thanks Guys

Gary you are right I have the warranty in place thereffore I will have to let them do it, I appreciate all the advice that has been given though!

Cheers JO

You could always fit the Bosch battery - keep your recharged Porsche one in the garage and then when you have to take the car to the OPC refit it for that day.

If you fit yourself dont forget and check you have the RADIO CODE[;)]
Not required any longer, PCM reads the code from the cars ECU- or along those lines...

Changed my own bought from an OPC a few months ago for £168 but have heard of others paying well over up to around the £240 mark to get one installed at the OPC's.

If concerned about loss of memories ( not the wedding anniversary, forget that, you're on your own ) connect the Ctek to the leads and remove the battery terminals according to the instructions elsewhere on the forum.
