Flat Battery ?

I came to start my 2006 997 this morning only to find the a nearly dead Boxster, the battery had a little life in it but not enough to turn the engine, my question is as the battery is over 4 years old do I replace it or should I invest in a Ctek Charger

Get it tested but 4 years is about right for a lead acid battery. I wonder why car batteries aren't a better technology like NiMh yet?

You can order a Lithium Ion battery from Porsche as an option for the Gen.2 GT3, GT3 RS and Boxster Spyder (possibly the Cayman R too) - its less than half the weight, but its chuffin expensive!

If you haven't been using a battery conditioner and it's 4 years old then I'd get a new battery, and a conditioner for use whenever the car is garaged.

When I bought my "S" 10 years ago I fitted a Porsche battery conditioner, (about £60) as the car was not in daily use, and normally garaged between November and February each year. Still starts first time on original battery and despite the doomongers that say these cars should be driven regularly or there could be problems, to date nothing has been replaced except tyres, (Nurburgring) over the last 32,500mls. Cannot recommend strongly enough the use of a battery conditioner if second car use only.

I echo the above. My car needed a new battery after 8 years. Had done about 60K miles. Car always on the conditioner when in the garage. I only topped the acid up once with distilled water - I suspect I could have got longer out of the battery if I'd checked it more often and noticed that a cell was low towards the end.

Many Thanks

Had my new battery fitted by Porschtek Leeds yesterday, back to normal again.

I have looked at the Ctek conditioners, which do you recommend

Steve
