Flexible C4S Cab

Hi

This is my first post, only just joined the club and bought my first Porsche a couple of weeks ago. Its an 04 C4S Cab and I love it...but...with the hard top on (I took it of as soon as I got it but put it back on a few days ago) its creaking with the slightest change in attitude.

Driving up a curb or down a shallow ramp onto the flat, even on some roads. Is this normal? I know a cab has an element of flex but how much?

I'm taking the car back to the dealer I bought it from next week as I've a couple of niggles and wonder whether to raise this as an issue.

Thanks

I have a C4 Cab which also creaks. It's worse if you have 18" wheels (which you will have). No convertible is immune from flexing but (having driven a mate's Saab) the 996 is better than most. The trouble, as I'm sure you're gathering, is that the car flexes but the hardtop doesn't, mainly due to the large glass rear window. It can be reduced a bit by lubricating the rubber seals and possibly by adjusting the rear mounting points, although in my experience it won't make much difference. The only total cure I've found is to turn the stereo up.

make sure all rubber seals against the bodywork and the header rail are lubricated, and any guide lugs and associated sockets are well dosed with vaseline. there is soem adjustment on the hardtop, but its tricky to get right if you don't know exactly what you are doing

Thanks Guys, really appreciate your comments and advice, I'll give it a go.

Any experience of tracks days? The salesman advised that I should remove the hardtop if I do a track day. Presumably to avaoid hardtop or mounting damage?

I can email you the instructions for adjusting the hardtop if that would be any use, although the dealer should have these. email me if you would like a copy.

They all squeak after a while.
There's a special lubricant that you can get from your OEM. you apply it to the rubber bits.
I would definitely not use other silicon based products as they may damage the rubber over time.
The product you want is called Krytox Lubricant. Porche Part number: 999.917.557.00.

There's also a TSB that documents other sources of noises. 03-22-2002,7-01,6102

If you send me your email addr I will send you a copy.
