Flooded engine

Thought I'd post my wife's unfortunate experience of yesterday.

Basically car refused to start (fortunately she was working from home, but had a Dr's appt) - would turn over but no sign of actually firing.

My first instinct (when she called me at work) was that the engine had become flooded. Made the mistake over the weekend of moving the car out of the garage and on/off drive, but not letting it run for very long at all. Porsche Assist was called (very pleasant and helpful service by all accounts) who duly started the car by removing (I believe - wife a bit sketchy about this) the fuel pump fuse and then starting the engine. Cue lots of smoke and sweet smelling unburnt hydrocarbons!

Was indeed flooded.

So, a cautionary note. If you need to move your car let it run for a few minutes at least. Or better still combine it with a run.

Never had this happen with any other vehicle despite similar treatment on occasions.

Mine's done this twice under the same conditions. Something that "Honest John" in the Telegraph says he is fed up telling people about (all cars, not just ours). Good tip about the fuse though - thanks. Last time I just left it for the day and it started up OK (well, HUGE cloud of smoke) when I got home. Funnily enough it never smelled of fuel at all ( not like in the old days of chokes and carbs). I suspect the sensors think it has flooded and shut off all the fuel!
