Hi,

When replacing fog light bulbs I noticed the projector lens appeared smoky. Probably not surprising after 19 years! Has anyone cleaned these items? Any pitfalls to avoid will be welcomed.

I have replaced using blue coated bulbs to better match headlight Xenon main beams. About to do same with high beam bulbs. Original Osram Silverlights give a very yellow and ineffective light. Has anyone noticed a loss of light output using coated bulbs? I ask because the coating looks thick. I changed the side lights to LED a couple of years ago and they look very good.

I'd be interested to know what make of LED side lights you used. I bought some a year or so back and fitted them but they were so dim I decided they were dangerous and I put the traditional tungsten bulbs back in and put up with the poorly matched colours.

I've not tried coated main beams, but I use "nightbreakers" from Osram which are much brighter than stock bulbs. They actually do light up the road brightly even against the foreground illumination from my HIDs on the dipped beam. Again I put up with the colour being wrong.[8|]

Hi Mark,

Hunted through my receipts but cannot find the relevant one. However, try Autobulbs Direct. Ltd (www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk) they are very helpful and have a good grip on LED developments. I have just purchased replacement LED Running Lights for my Superb L&G.

I'd be interested to know what make of LED side lights you used

I found single chip Cree LED's to be superb and a good colour match for 4000K HID headlight upgrades. They are unbelievably bright - way better than the multi-chip LED's often seen on Ebay.

A few years back, I bought the 4-LED Bright White sidelights from ACEParts down South and asked owner Alan there to be sure they matched up with 4000K HIDs - he runs a 993 too and tests out any new stock he's bought in, or is developing, on his own car.

Result was absolutely fine in all departments, also light output way better than original filament bulbs, and still going strong as we speak.

Will be going down to him again sooner or later for new HID bulbs as they did those too so hopefully still do ... [:-]
