fog lamps

have just put my car, 1982 SC Targa Sports through my first MOT, generally all is fine except I have to re-fit the (staggeringly ugly and crude) rear fog lamps, that I removed within the first hour of ownership>
They look like something normally associated with Mk II Escorts from the 1980's
I beleive I can upgrade to a more integrated solution by using some parts from the 3.2 Carrera vintage
Has anyone done this and if so is it difficuilt and what do I need to buy

Oh yes, I removed the front ones too as they are equally awfull looking

thanks
Jonathan

It's all down to what you like the look of... and if you should change anything!!

Rear Fogs

On the 3.2 carrera, the early ones (like mine) still have the re fogs externally fitted as the SC, from 1985/6 they intergrated them as you say, into the rear reflector, apart from sourcing a later reflector with the lights, I dont think you need to do any more other than
re route/extend the wires, from what I can recall, the reflector assembly is held on by clips, and needs to be gently prised away from the rear panel.

If you wish to proceed with this, I would suggest a call to Douglas Valley breakers, who specialise in breaking Porsches.

Front Fogs

Not so easy for this one, as I think you need a different front valance that includes the housings for the fog lights, all are internal on the 3.2's...but just to let you know, I recently had to changs a front fog lens, which alone came to £30 ish, sourced from Euro Car Parts..which are already heavily discounted prices, when compared to Porsche main dealers.

If you go ahead with any of the above, let us know!!

thanks for the advice, I contacted a number of used part suppliers but only Douglas Valley could supply a rear reflector

The part arrives monday so I will be on to it next week-end

I'm not so bothered about the front ones yet as their omission was not relevant for the MOT and the winter and its dark nights are a wee while away yet

Will try and take some pictures to post when I start work on the car

thanks

I believe that, if you want to fit the rear fogs into the general light cluster, as per my '87 3.2, then it will take more than just buying the reflector etc. I have seen this done, and it involved some metalwork - can't remember how much, and it wasn't that difficult, but some painting was involved. And the final result looked really good.

i have to go along with john on this one. there is some metal work to be done as the new lights have to sit in the body. i was only reading about how to do this this week but can't remember where. i i do i will post.

good luck

steve

Steve & John,

Also saw the earlier post about the metalwork, but alas do not recall where....

If I remember rightly, it's necessary to cut holes in the rear panel to receive the bodies of the fog light units.

The only person that I have seen do this is Leigh, he works with the crew at Chelsea Carrera 020-7610-2326. He did it on a customers's car.

Just done a quick search and revealed this link:
