Fog Lights

Are you trying to remove them from the front of the vehicle, like you would to change a bulb? If so, I tried to remove mine last week but could only get half of the fixings out. I've been spraying them with penetrating oil each day this week ready for another go at the weekend. If they still won't budge I'll drill them out rather than go to the expense of an entire new unit! Maybe somebody here can correct me if I'm wrong, but peering into the threads of the fixings I've removed it looks like they're threaded brass inserts in the plastic so drilling into it looks to be less risky than drilling straight into plastic threads.

I tried to remove my fogs a while ago but the bolts sheared off, my S2 is in getting its sills replaced so ive asked them to take a look. I checked online for some replcement ones, just in case, and theyre £175 each!!?! Would they need replacing or could anything thats rusted away be repaired?

Yes, the screws holding the lens to the back plate can corrode so much that when you try to change a bulb there is nothing left to unscrew. They 'can' be drilled out if you're very lucky and then replaced with a self tapper. The lens can be bought for around £80, but the back plate cannot be bought seperately. If you mess up the backplate you need a new unit at around £180. Remove your screws regularly and keep them oiled is my advice

That is bad news for me.... One of my foglight bulbs need replaced and I am not relishing the prospect after reading this []...

I was being fussy with a little bit of condensation in mine. Ended up with a much bigger problem [] ! I had to drill mine out and use selection of self tappers. I was able to use new captive nuts in a couple of locations using fine thread screws. I cured the condensation problem though - my trainers came with a little sachet of silica gel in what looks like a small tea bag - dropped that in behind the reflector and all is good! [:)] Good luck drilling and mask any glass/paint in close proximity!
