Foil Conversion

Has anyone upgraded (?) their 964 by this route.
If so, what was the cost / benefit ?
Who did it ?

I have been told it can be done for about £750 to £1,000 and adds 'up to' 50 bhp.
If this is so, why doesn't everyone do it ?

I presume you mean the hot film/hot wire conversion. It's a different MAF coupled with an induction kit and a remap. If you go for the Cargraphic one, you'll also need to change to the RS throttle body and inlet manifold which would push the price up. I believe the alternative is the FVD one as sold by Power Marques. IIRC, theirs is about £850 + VAT and they claim + 50 bhp.

I find this mildy annoying, 50BHP is close to max without changing the injectors on a 964 due to flow rates. I would hope that the hot film route+RR remapping would give close to this, though it's very engine condition limited.

Kevin.

Kevin. Just had a look at your website - good job you've done there. I just wondered how long ago you had the seats done and how they are holding up. I want to get something similar done to mine.

Hi Stewart,

about four years and 13k miles ago, holding up ok on my side, less well on the wifes side. Not sure if that says I'm more careful, or what exactly.....but overal they still look ok.

I see he's mover to Biggin Hill now which is way too close to me so it will definitely be done this winter.

Have you suggested to her that it does look too big in a 964?[;)] Or would the divorce cost you the car?

I've heard the hot film conversion isn't very reliable and some specialists no longer offer the conversion (too much hassle when it goes wrong).
I've no idea if this is true - just what I heard.
