Foot flat to the floor and no power?

Is it just me? Or does this seem wrong to you?

On Saturday we had a little run out to a local-ish airshow.

On a bit of dual carriageway I'm doing about 70 (indicated) but wanted to drive past the car in front. Now the S is normally very capable of accellerating in any gear as I recall, and I'm in 6th.
I'm not trying to blow the guy in fronts doors off, just wanting to ease past.
So did not change down, just pushed down on the throttle pedal, bit more, bit more... Nothing! My foot is on the bulkhead and the car has crawled to an indicated 75.
Tried again a couple of times and the same sort of thing happened.

It accellerates fine through the gears (although I have been thinking it seems to be "holding back" a bit lately? I thought maybe I had just got used to it )

So, is it just me, and I'm expecting more than I remember from the past 3 years ownership? Or is it the Mass Air Flow Sensor? (no check engine lights though)

I'm off on a 3,000 mile trip around the Alps on Friday, or am I?[&:]

If it's any use, I have just had the same symtoms on my main car a Golf TDI, put my foot down nothing 70mph flat out, no ECU light on but no power.

Its just come back today from VW and that was a mass air flow meter (hot wire) faulty.

Same symtoms, might be the same.

Rob

Yes I reckon its the mass air flow meter.
Just done my Golf tdi,£75 plus vat from German & Swedish-dealer said £650!!

I was going to mention it to Peter and Craig - but I do have Porsche extended warranty...
So if anything needs changing...
