Foot-well Blowers not working

The blowers either side of the foot-wells are not working. Can someone help me with the diagnosis please ?

Both removed - I replaced - burned out motor, other freed off and lubed. Both tested on a battery off the car and run fine. Fuse OK.

They don't run when I switch the heat / vent fan control in the centre to the right - fresh air centre fan comes on but not the foot-well fans. Engine hot or cold (not sure if this makes any difference, but I have tested it both ways).

Or is there another switch somewhere ?

Help / ideas on diagnosing the source of the problem would be appreciated.

Cheers. David

Had a similar problem with mine. Got the footwell motors sorted out and then the relay went kaput. So, suspect relay maybe!

We should start a double act Richard.[:)]
Don't forget that the relay for the additional footwell fans is controled by the heater control unit (the black box between the seats). So pray to whoever is your god that that isn't the culprit!
Good luck.

I had a similar problem years ago and it was the relay (gubbins inside a tin can) in the left side of the engine compartment. I'd ask someone to let you try theirs (or you put yours in their car). I got the part much cheaper from Strasse but these days OPCs are probably not as pricey as they once were on these parts.

I did check out the control unit but all seemed well. It's primarily a mechanical / micro-switch unit I discovered. I checked out the relay by substitution, as Dan suggests, and it did prove to be faulty .............. and it cost!

Greetings
I managed to overhaul the heating system myself. I had simla' problems with the footwell motors.
First thing I did was to strip out the central control unit. I found a few dry joints and a couple of the mirco-switches that had become miss-aligned, with use and current drain I suspect[] Repaired that lot which helped a few of the setting problems but the footwell blowers still wern't blowing[:(]
I traced the fault back to the suspect relay in the engine bay, left hand side. Not wanting to fork out loads of casho I thought I would have a look inside first[:)] So prised open the casing and found a burnt track, soldered it across and re-assembled the casing.
Returned to the vehicle, armed with a bible for good luck, and plugged the relay in................Bingo.[:D]
All now works.Promptly went to pub to tell everyone[:)]
If you want a more detailed discription of what I did please e-mail me.
Good luck
Alex
